Practical Research II
Quarter 2 – Module 4
The Intervention

2
Introductory Message
For the facilitator:
Welcome to the Practical Research II 12 Self-Learning Module on The
Intervention.
This module was collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed by
educators both from public and private institutions to assist you, the teacher or
facilitator in helping the learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Curriculum
while overcoming their personal, social, and economic constraints in schooling.
This learning resource hopes to engage the learners into guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Furthermore, this also aims to help
learners acquire the needed 21st century skills while taking into consideration their
needs and circumstances.

In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the body of
the module:

Notes to the Teacher

This contains helpful tips or strategies that will help

you in guiding the learners.

As a facilitator, you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this module.
You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to manage
their own learning. Furthermore, you are expected to encourage and assist the
learners as they do the tasks included in the module.
For the learner:

Welcome to the Practical Research II 12 Self-Learning Module on The

Intervention.
This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful
opportunities for guided and independent learning at your own pace and time. You
will be enabled to process the contents of the learning resource while being an active
learner.

The Intervention
CONTENT STANDARD
The learners demonstrate understanding of description of intervention.

PERFORMANCE STANDARD
The learners should be able to describe adequately quantitative research
designs, sample, instrument used, intervention (if applicable), data collection,
and analysis procedures.

LEARNING COMPETENCY
• Describes intervention (if applicable) (CS_RS12-IIa-c-4).

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of the module, you should be able to:
1. Define what is intervention;
2. Appreciate the use of intervention; and
3. Describe intervention.

INTRODUCTION

This module was designed and written with you in mind. It is here to help you
define and describe intervention in various researches. The scope of this module
permits it to be used in many different quantitative researches. The lessons are
arranged to follow the standard sequence of the course.
Do the series of activities to achieve your goal.

REVIEW OF THE PREVIOUS MODULE

Instrument is the general term that researchers use for a measurement device
(survey, test, questionnaire, etc.).

Validity is the extent to which an instrument measures what it is supposed to

measure and performs as it is designed to perform.

Reliability can be thought of as consistency.

1
PRESENTATION OF THE MODULE

Interventions are the steps that the researchers are going to take into after the
data are gathered, organized, and analyzed systematically. Basically, researchers
should clearly and completely describe how the intervention will be implemented,
such that the reader can replicate the intervention.

ACTIVITY

Directions: Discuss briefly.

1. Imagine you are a researcher of “Kapuso mo, Jessica Soho”. You are tasked
to cover a story and conduct several interviews. Enumerate the MOST BASIC
steps that, you think, could help you write the story comprehensively.

ABSTRACTION

Tips on Writing an Intervention Process Paper

Writing an intervention process paper requires extensive research. A well-
constructed paper on the intervention process can help save lives because the data
it offers might inspire someone to seek help for a loved one. Using multiple
approaches to information gathering will help you create a stronger paper, as some
people respond better to personal testimonials while others prefer statistical
information. Detailing the intervention approach may act as a basis for the execution
of the intervention strategy.
1. Research
The first step in writing an intervention process report is the acquisition of
research. You may also want to visit college and university libraries that have a
comprehensive selection of your subject matter, in addition to your local library.
University libraries are globally connected, so just by visiting one platform, you can
find material from a multitude of sources. Some allow you, particularly if you are a
member of their alumni association, to browse their content online.
EXERCISE 1

Describe briefly the help that a certain research regarding a topic can help a
researcher craft his intervention program or paper.

2. Interview
Reach out to people from various fields when you conduct an interview. You
can take information from them who have the first-hand experience in your study and
will add credibility to your papers. For a well-rounded viewpoint, interview people
who experienced an intervention so as the friends and loved ones who organized the
intervention to get a good viewpoint. To get a different point of view, approach a
therapist who has facilitated treatments. In the interview, ask if you can have a
recording on the conversation. This ensures that you will write accurate quotes and
can provide a resource you can return to for verification.
3. Visit
Contact several centers that cater services you need. Speak to administrators
and members of the program about their treatment philosophy and what steps they

3
take to help improve patients. To learn what role they play in the intervention process
and patient recovery, visit local programs such as Alcoholics Anonymous as well.
4. Data
To add credibility and sustain your conclusions, help your interviews and
analysis with statistical evidence. For instance, in an intervention process paper
about addiction on drugs in a particular population, a graph can be created that
illustrates the number of individuals who use a particular drug such as marijuana,
methamphetamine or alcohol. A pie chart can serve to illustrate the number of
people who seek treatment. Depict the duration and percentage of sobriety in bar
chart format. Charts and graphs will allow the reader to better consider facts of your
research.
5. Outline the Process
Outline the process of your intervention according to your research findings.
Creating an action plan will ignite the individual to accept the help he needs. Through
assembling loved ones and a qualified specialist who will oversee the intervention
process, the simple process works. Furthermore, you will decide on what to do if the
person does not accept treatment. Examples are cutting him out of your life, refusing
to support him with money or not letting him reach his children until help is received.
Then each individual will be writing a letter to the person going through the
intervention providing details how his addiction has affected his relationship and why
he needs to seek help. Lastly, you may meet as a group for the intervention program
and confront the specific person. While the meeting is mediated by the intervention
counselor, each person will have the chance to read his message.

ACTIVITY (Answers may vary)
ANALYSIS (Answers may vary)
1. What is research intervention?
Intervention research is the systematic study of purposive change strategies.
It is characterized by both the design and development of interventions. ... In
contrast, prescriptive interventions tend to be based on manuals that specify
practice activities and guide the exchange between intervention agents and
participants.
2. What is the purpose of an intervention?
An intervention is a combination of program elements or strategies designed
to produce behavior changes or improve health status among individuals or
an entire population. Interventions may include educational programs, new or
stronger policies, improvements in the environment, or a health promotion
campaign.
EXERCISE 1
1. Describe briefly the help that a certain research regarding a topic
can help a researcher craft his intervention program or paper.
Intervention research examines the effects of an intervention on an
outcome of interest. The primary purpose of intervention research is to
engender a desirable outcome for individuals in need (e.g., reduce
depressive symptoms or strengthen reading skills).
EXERCISE 2
1. What is the role of data in writing your intervention?
The data that will be gathered for the intervention will help the
researchers to determine how well the plan is working and whether
they need to make any changes in the intervention procedures.
APPLICATION (Answers may vary)
1. Why is intervention needed in experimental research?
Intervention (or Experimental) studies differ from observational studies in
that the investigator assigns the exposure. They are used to determine
the effectiveness of an intervention or the effectiveness of a health service
delivery. It approximates the controlled experiment of basic science.
2. What is the importance of an interview in the data collection
process?
Interviews are most effective for qualitative research:
They help you explain, better understand, and explore research subjects'
opinions, behavior, experiences, phenomenon, etc. Interview questions
are usually open-ended questions so that in-depth information will be
collected.
