Causes of war of independence

There were many religious, political, economic, Social and military reasons
that ended up leading to the war of Independence. After the British economy and
trade company in the sub-continent started expanding they started making their
own rules and started introducing their culture Sub continent. First of the all they
introduced missionary schools, the purpose of which was to convert majority of
the local population to Christianity. They also enforced Christianity and their own
cultures on the people of sub-Continent.

They also banned Hijab and pardah which was common practice for Muslim
women in India. They even banned Satti" which was very common religious
practice for Hindus in the Sub- continent. Satti practice of burning the wife the
husband when he dies.

One more major and immediate cause of the war of independence was
usage of the greased cartridges. Greased Cartridges were special bullets which
had to be torn out from their grease wrapping using teeth. But the grease
wrappings on these cartridges was made from either cow or pig fats. But since
cow is sacred for Hindus and pig is haram for Muslims none the two religions
wanted to use these but were forced to by the British. Over all the British
interference with religious activities of local people was one of the major causes
of War of Independences.

The British also introduced many Laws and Rules which were against the
local people. For example the "Doctrine of Laps" by Lord Dalhousie which stated
that ruler dies without leaving any natural heir behind their entire Kingdom would
be taken over by British.

They also started "Divide and a "Rule" policy, where they created
misunderstandings and problems between Hindus and Muslims which made it
easier for the British to spread their rule. The British used to disrespect and
humiliate Mughal Emperors which also made the local population furious. During
this time Local population was not given any administrative opportunities. And
since all the administration was British the locals of the Indian Sub-continent
could not have any way to get their rights.

There were also quite a few economic reasons for the WOI. During this
period the local population was running short on money. The British introduced
the dissolution of Durbars. Back then the only form of advertising or selling
products was done through durbars but now that the British stopped this, the
local market in India stopped flourishing. Locals were then bound to buy
expensive British products. Furthermore Locals were only appointed at low
income jobs.

On top of this them also. Appointed Huge taxes from the locals and this
made the local population poor. All these things made the Locals run short on
money. The britishers even changed the system of Education here in the
subcontinent and Introduced coeducation which locals were not familiar with.
They also enforced English language not just in fields of education but a larger
scale they tried to make it the local and official language of subcontinent too.
Another that the Britishers forced soldiers to convert to Christianity if they
wanted to fight for their country in the British army. All these disputes and unjust
eventually led to the war of Independence in 1857. So in short there were a
variety of different religious, political, economic, social and military reasons that
caused the war of independence in India in 1857.
