Installation Guideline for MR-J4/J4W/JE Firmware
1. Required Equipment and Tools
䞉 Personal computer (with MR Configurator2 (version 1.10L or later) installed)
䞉 USB cable
䞉 J4update (installation tool / individual supply by Mitsubishi)
䈜Ver.0 0.06䠖not supported for 64bit OS(Windows7) , Ver.0 0.09䠖supported for 64bit OS(Windows7)
䞉 .mof file (firmware to be installed / individual supply by Mitsubishi)
2. Installation Procedures
(1) Preparation before installation
1) Power on the servo amplifier and put it into the ready-off and servo-off mode.
* To put the servo amplifier into the ready-off and servo-off mode, disconnect the
communication connector connected to the higher-level control device such as SSCNET.
2) Connect the servo amplifier to a personal computer (logged in as an administrator) using a
USB cable, and then start MR Configurator2.

ŏ Before installing the firmware, put the servo amplifier into the ready-off and
Caution servo-off mode. Installing the firmware in the ready-on and servo-on mode
may cause a failure of the servo amplifier.

(2) Startup of J4update

1) Start J4update.exe.
* J4update may not start if MR Configurator2 (version 1.10L or later) has not been installed.
* The installation can be performed normally if J4update is started up while MR
Configurator2 is running. However, the communication by MR Configurator2 is
interrupted when the installation of J4update is started.

3) When a mof file is selected, detailed information of the mof file is displayed as shown by "d" in
Figure 1. Confirm that the firmware version of the mof file shown by "e" in Figure 1 is the
same as that of the firmware to be installed.

(3) Installation of the firmware
1) Confirm that the communication status with the servo amplifier is "ONLINE" as shown by "h"
in Figure 1, and then click on [Update (X)] shown as "f" in Figure 1. The installation of the
firmware will start.
* Though AL 19.2 (FLASH-ROM error 2) occurs immediately after the installation is started,
it is normal.

2) Upon completion of the installation, " o n " is displayed on the 7-seg LED of the servo amplifier
and "Update success" is displayed in the area as shown by "g" in Figure 1.
ŏDo not start multiple programs such as two J2update programs at the same
time. Doing so will disable the communication with the servo amplifier.
*Once multiple programs are started at the same time, the communication

(5) Procedures to be followed after installation
1) Check the firmware version.
Click on [Diagnosis] of MR Configurator2, and then select
[System Configuration].
Check that the [Servo amplifier S/W No.] surrounded by the
frame in Figure 2 is the same as that of the software you have
installed.

2) Deleting the alarm history

For firmware upgrading, it is possible to carry out Figure 2 System configuration display
the upgrade without connecting the applicable motor (encoder).
However, in such a case, the alarm "AL16"
remains in the alarm history.
Therefore, delete the alarm history by following the
procedures below.
࣭Start MR Configurator2, and
click on [Diagnosis], and then select [Alarm display (A)].
࣭Click on [Alarm history deletion] in the lower right of the For J4W, put a checkmark and

[Note] For a multi-axis servo amplifier (MR-J4WF-F F FB),
it is required to delete the alarm history of each axis.
Click on [Project], and then [New…].
Select the checkbox of [Multi-ax. unification] shown in
Figure 3. Then select the axis [A], [B], or [C] for deleting
the alarm history of each. Figure 3 The axis selection screen
Powering on the servo amplifier again after deleting the
alarm history as shown in the above procedures will give
an alarm again. Do not power on the servo amplifier again
after deleting the alarm history.
