Questions to HP 7

I need help here:

I was repeatetly taught in forums and even people with enhanced knowledge on HP calculators (Tim
Wessmann) that complaining about certain aspects of the prime is not justied, because "it is
targeted at schools and students. It was never designed to replace the HP48 series...." It is not for
you, you working engineer... It is primarily for the educational sector. You can work with it, of course,
but your desires are of secondary nature for us.
Don't get me wrong. I like the prime, the prime has great potential, but HP omitted DETAILS. Really!
They focussed on apps and power point presantations, introduced a confusing conglomerate of a
HP39 and a powerful CAS and in the past did not ask or listen to the group that I belong to.

So what does your announcement tell me? Is there a chance that HP will REWORK the prime? Will
they add feature that serve well in daily work? Or will they stick on colorful features that serve well on
selling parties and schoolastic presentations?

I really hope that the prime will morph to a agship, but to be honest I doubt it.

Hi hape,

The Prime was indeed targeted at students and schools and has the potential to become a agship in
that area! I don't think HP really meant not to listen to you as professional users by the way. :) I am
not involved in the R&D of this machine so cannot answer your question on whether HP is thinking of
a rework of Prime, but with the right apps it might oer potential as well for your needs...

HP PRIME https://web.archive.org/web/20150607050326/http://forum.hp-prime.de...

I think there is no need to argue with you about R&D, yes. Your inuence is likely very low I know that.
Just a short example where the philosophy is plain wrong. 'The right app for the right task'.
I want to dig into the cas. I want to then exchange data with some plotting or solver apps
occasionally. But because of the build in variable system and HP39 shadows lying over HOME you get
stuck far too soon. At least for use at work. There is too much....friction... when not using the
calculator for one specic use only. Like using this app for that course at school - that will work ne.
There is no smooth operation throughout the whole calculator. Do you get my point?
Same with units or even integers.

Too many threads in the forums where people were faced with related problems.

HP has the chance to make an even better calculator. I tell you what - I would buy a second prime at
once. No need for the test-mode or other specialized features. Some passionate, caring tweaks
instead. I'll get one hours later, I swear ;-))

KlaasKuperus March 5

Hi hape!

Thanks for the comments in any case! It's good to listen to users like you, especially when you say you
would buy another model. ;)

I know the HP team is reading the forums, this one too, so let's hope they will be able to do
something with it. If we prove HP Prime to be successful in education, I am sure they could be open
to the idea!

Sorry,

my english is bad.

I'am a fan of HP calculators since 1981... But my rst programmable calculator was a TI 57. HP was
too expensive at this time.

The Ti 57 was followed by a TI 59. Great machine!.

During my university times i bought HP 41c, HP 11c, HP 15c, HP 32, HP 42, HP 71, HP 28C...
Later the HP 48G

Then TI Voyage 200: Excellent!!!

TI Nspire : Super
A few years ago the HP 35s
And a Casio FX CG 20. SUPER!!!

AND THEN: HP Prime. Worst Machine of all !!!

So, i decided to by a HP 50g

The 50g is my favorite calculator.

My wish: HP 50g combined with Voyage 200. Color display. RPN.

My advice: Forget HP Prime. This "machine" is only good for opening beer bottles.

Sorry HP.

Bring out a new HP 41 cx.

And i'll be a (new) convinced customer.

Hi Willibald,

Sorry to read you're not happy with the Prime. I do believe your 'advice' is a little harsh though. ;) And
who knows? The 15C came back, so maybe the 41 will too. Sometime..
