Plan an Infographic Assignment

1)​ ​Goal​:

The purpose of the infographic is to inform chefs and customers of the Hilo’s farmers market, HI,
about what fruits are available during the spring and promote their consumption by providing
ideas for their use.

2) Audience​:

Restaurants and customers of the Hilo’s Farmers Market. The audience might find it relevant to
identify the different tropical fruits along with information on its consumption and availability. The
audience includes English and Hawaiian speakers.

3) Story: ​The story will take the form of images of the fruits organized by color identified in both
languages. The images will be placed on a graph, on the y axis along with their tags. The
specific spring months where the fruits are available will be marked by a bar of the same color of
the fruit in the graph. The infographic will also contain images and copy representing the dishes
that can be prepared. The dishes will be represented in two groups: sweet and savory.
Information about why to consume seasonal fruit will be included as an introduction.

4) Message/hook: ​The graph will inform in a scannable way the availability of a fruit in a
determined month.The fruits sorted by color will provide chefs a visual guide when deciding the
best way to incorporate them in the presentation of their plates. The tag in both languages will
help the customer to recognize the fruit and communicate with the vendor if a sign in English is
not provided. The representation of use of fruits in dishes will ignite ideas about how to ingest
the fruits and promote their consumption.

5) Content:

● List of fruits found on the big island during spring, including availability by month,
provided by the Hilo’s farmers market. The information was gathered 5 years prior to
publishing.
● Information about the consumption of the food provided by professionals on gastronomy
as well authoritative sources on the field.

6) Visuals:

● Chart of fruit availability with pictures and tags

● Illustration of the spring fruits as an anchor image
● Picture of farmer harvesting for introduction section
● Pictures of dishes with tags
● Digitally illustrated map of the location of the market
