    High-density polyethylene (HDPE) sheets are made from ethylene and petroleum in a catalytic process. HDPE is strong in tension but cannot be used for the current project. HDPE is usually used for below-grade waterproofing but the lack of setbacks in this project prevent its use. HDPE sheets also cannot be applied vertically to sheet piles because removing the piles would damage the sheets. Therefore, HDPE is not advisable for waterproofing in this project.

    High-Density Polyethylene: HDPE is a hydrocarbon polymer prepared from ethylene/petroleum by a


    catalytic process. It is a kind of thermoplastic which is famous for its tensile strength.

    HDPE sheets use in below-grade waterproofing applications such as basements rafts and confined
    retaining walls with the high water table and cut & cover structures but in our project, due to the non-
    availability of setbacks, we can’t able to use this product.

    Vertical application:

    For vertical application on the sheet piles, the substrate should be made regular with smooth
    finished shotcrete. If we do the same while removing the sheet pile the HDPE sheet will get damaged. So it
    is not advisable to use the HDPE sheets for our projects.
