COMPANY PROBLEM

Nestle is one of the largest food and beverage companies in the world. Nestle was
founded in 1866 by Henri Nestle. Nestle has been operating for more than 130 years. Product
innovation and business acquisitions have made Nestle the world's largest food company. As
a result, the fundamentals of operations management are the most important process for any
company, whether for profit or not. Operational activities are not only required in product
manufacturing but also in service activities. Therefore, the role of operations management is
important in a company because it carries out the basic functions of process management,
such as planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling. Operations management
should also have the ability to make good decisions and be able to achieve customer
satisfaction by producing quality products or services.

Operations managers should also be careful with workplace conflict because it can
happen in the company. This conflict issue is unavoidable. This is a result of the differences
in needs, attitudes, beliefs, and resources that exist among the personnel and produce
misunderstandings and disagreements. When two or more people are collaborating on the
same activity at work, conflict is likely to arise. Conflict is also an issue that deserves attention
for companies and organizations. It comes mainly from business, sociology, and psychology,
not communication or education. Conflict has been defined as disharmony among people,
which always arises because everyone has different ideas. Conflict can result in heated
arguments, physical abuse, and the destruction of a calm and happy environment. Conflict is
devastating for business, yet many people avoid dealing with it. Because everyone has a
different point of view, disagreements can help us understand from various angles provided
they are handled properly. However, if conflict is not handled effectively or is handled
incorrectly, it can have negative effects that are detrimental to the business.

The organisational conflict that occurs in the Nestle company is due to a lack of training
for employees. If the wrong training is given, it will result in damage when carrying out the
work. Therefore, proper training is very important for every organization. Factors that cause a
lack of training to occur are ineffective management, unclear training objectives, and a lack of
training motivation among employees. Workers at Nestle, on the other hand, who lack training
and cannot work well, are confused about their jobs, and their work will be of poor quality.
Furthermore, the occurrence of conflict at Nestle is also caused by poor communication
between employees because employees believe that every problem and every piece of
information needs to be communicated to a middleman known as a third party. When a third
party intervenes, the information communicated to the superior will change. This conflict
occurs when a message is sent by a third party due to a poor communication problem. Good
communication is important to organisations because it allows employees to optimise their
performance, and employees believe that every piece of information must be sent directly to
superiors without third-party intervention.

Therefore, the emergence of this conflict will cause employee turnover at Nestle. The
chart below shows the number of employees at Nestle from 2008 to 2021. There was an
impressive increase from 2008 to 2014, but from 2014 on, it decreased until now. There are
also other conflicts that affect employee turnover, which are organisational conflicts that arise
for various reasons, including communication issues, ambiguous authority, a lack of shared
interests and goals, and task dependence.

Furthermore, by embracing individuals as they are, problems inside organisations can

be resolved. Everyone has unique ideas and emotions. People will thus process information
and reach choices in different ways. To gain important insight and to better understand and
appreciate other people's ideas, nestle managers should be aware of how their team members
approach their work.

Besides that, the organisation must assign the party responsible for training
management so that the training programme can run smoothly. Management must monitor
employees before, during, and after training. So that what is evaluated after the end of the
training session can influence them in transferring the training to the workplace. The
advantage that will be affected is that the employee has sufficient skills and is ready to step
towards the real job, but the employee will also be tired as soon as the real job starts because
it continues to be absorbed in. Therefore, motivation is very important for employees to
continue their careers. Likewise, organisations must foster a desire for training among
participants by creating a supportive environment during the training programme. Only then
can training become a motivating factor for employees to attend training. The company must
also give the participants the proper training as its next plan. How well the training will serve
a participant's future career is referred to as training appropriateness.

Consequently, for poor communication conflicts between employees, the way to deal with
them is to hold meetings every month because meetings are the mainstay of most companies
and can even improve communication at work. At the meeting, you can talk about work
problems, whether good or bad. But there are pros and cons in this way because there is one
side that finds this way productive to coordinate multiple people and work towards a common
goal. However, problems arise if too many external parties are involved and some parties are
too emotional in the meeting. So, it can have the opposite effect. Therefore, the organisation
must ensure that the meeting is short, send the agenda in advance, always stay on topic,
invite only people whose presence is necessary, outline the steps to overcome the issues
found in the meeting, and take clear action after the meeting is over.

In short, Organizational problems should be resolved because they won't benefit the
business and will only make things worse. Thus, negative impacts such as misunderstandings
or internal disagreements. It is important for companies to have a conflict resolution plan to
avoid stress and a negative environment. It can also cause a lack of unity and cooperation in
the workplace. When employees don't get along with each other or disagree, it can be
challenging to keep everyone aligned with the company's goals. Hence, a healthy workplace
is excellent since employees may increase productivity, which in turn will increase the
revenues of the business.
