CHAPTER 2

DRAINAGE SYSTEM FOR BUILDINGS

7.1. FUNCTIONS
I. Missions:
The drainage system for buildings is
responsible for the collection of all
domestic wastewater, production and
rainwater. Depending on the degree of
contamination of the wastewater, the
drainage system can directly connect
to the drainage system of the area or
have to be pre-treated.
II. Classification:
 Domestic drainage system.
 Storm-water drainage system.
 Industrial drainage system
CHAPTER 7
DRAINAGE SYSTEM FOR BUILDINGS
7.2. COMPONENTS
The drainage system for buildings consists of
the following parts:
 Water collection equipments (floor drain,
collection, ...)
 Drainage pipes
 Pumping station
 Wastewater treatment system.

Drainage pipe system:
2. Vertical pipes:
1. Branched pipes:

- Mission: for collecting wastewater
the branched pipes to the main drain.
from pluming fixtures.
- Position: to be placed in the technical
- Position: to be placed on the floor or

under the ceiling by hanging
- Dimesion:
- Dimension:
+ Length: Not too long to avoid + Diameter:

blockage of pipes : Lbr  10 m. Dver  Dbr max

+ Diameter: Dbr  ddcmax

+ Slope: ibrTB, > ibrmin.

3. Main drain:

- Mission: to transfer wastewater from

vertical pipes to drainage manholes.

- Position: to be placed underground

- Dimension:

+ Diameter: Dmain  Dver max

7.3. CALCULATION b. Industrial wastewater flow:

1. Calculated wastewater flow q = qt.n.p/100 (7.2)

a. Domestic wastewater flow: where:
q = qc + qdc (7.1)
qt calculated wastewater flow of
where:
qc water supply flow (l/s) plumbing fixture(l/s).
qdc wastewater flow of plumbing n number of plumbing fixture
fixtures p percentage of simultaneous
operations of plumbing fixtures.
7.3. CALCULATION
2. Hydraulic calculation
Determination of the pipe diameter, slope,
velocity is conducted the same as the
drainage area network
