For today Tuesday, February 28 2023.

204 children died after taking Syrup Medicine. Based on the latest data at the end of 2022, there have
been 324 cases of child kidney failure in Indonesia.

Here is the news in details.

Acute kidney failure in children became one of the highlights of health problems since October 2022.

There were many children came to the hospital with complaints of suddenly not being able to urinate.

Most of their parents gave the information that their children had taken medicine for fever, cough and
cold before entering the hospital.

World Health Organization had released that there were unacceptable amounts of ethylene glycol
and diethylene glycol in syrup medicine that cause the acute kidney failure in children

Therefore, the Minister of Health, Budi Sadikin Gunadi, made regulation to stop the sale of syrup
medicine. 

Moreover, Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) arrange a series of tests to determine the
safety of the syrup medicine in the country and there were no additional new cases since Desember
2022.

But, Entering 2023, Acute kidney failure was found again at the end of January 2023. The case came
from a one-year-old child who was died on the first of February, 2023. The child had taken
paracetamol syrup that was bought at a pharmacy with Praxion brand. Whereas, BPOM had
announced that the medicine was safe to use based on the verification result in December
2022.

Therefore, currently, the Ministry of Health with various parties of health personnel, carry
out more investigations about the syrup medicine.

For now, parents are advised to stop using Praxion Paracetamol syrup because it is still
in the investigation by BPOM and the Indonesian Ministry of Health.
