Abstract

It is so intuitively appealing that society in general, and educators in

particular, have considered parental involvement as an important ingredient for the

remedy of many problems in education. However, during parent and teacher

conferences and barangayans, parents tend to express their frustrations in

monitoring and helping their children particularly because of their self-esteem.

Parents who did not experience success in school are claiming that they lack the

knowledge and confidence to help their children. They are intimidated by various

factors. Therefore, this study is conducted to determine the relationship between

parental involvement and academic achievement of STEM-12 Guerrero students. In

order to achieve the purpose of this study, a non-experimental quantitative

correlational design was utilized. A standardized survey questionnaire was used as a

research instrument. Data were analyzed using Spearman rho to find out the

statistical measure of the strength of a relationship between two variables. The

results revealed a Spearman Rho value of 0.1274, the p value obtained 0.57198 at

0.5 or 5% level of significance, and 20 degrees of freedom. Since the P-value is

greater than the significance level, the null hypothesis is accepted. The findings

showed that parental involvement has no significant relationship to academic

achievement. The result of the study found that parental involvement does not affect

student’s academic achievement.
