A. INTRODUCTION
Hydrocarbons are organic compounds composed entirely of carbon and
hydrogen atoms. They are obtained primarily from natural sources such as coal,
petroleum, and natural gas. Hydrocarbons differ primarily in the functional group.
This experiment will examine how the different functional groups in Alkanes,
Alkenes, Alkynes, and Aromatic hydrocarbons lead to different physical and
chemical properties.
