CONCRETE CONSTRUCTION 1

Abstract

Concrete Construction is a growing blue collar job and is projected to keep growing. The growth

rate is around zero point three percent and its growth is projected to go up in 2029. The reason

the growth is so low compared to other jobs is because as new people join the workforce the

elderly leave so the number of employment stays the same. There are about 320,052 people

currently employed in the concrete construction industry. As of right now, the average concrete

laborer is making $34,500, but a concrete finisher is making $47,500 because it is a harder and

more skilled job with no room for mistakes. The certificate needed to work in the concrete

industry is the OSHA Safety Certificate. In addition, licenses that are recommended are the

(CFFT) Concrete Flatwork Finisher and Technician and a (CCM) Certified Construction

Manager.

Ultimately, most people start with an apprenticeship role and do on-the-job training. The other

route is a union job such as DeCook Excavating during high school or right out of high school.

To sum up, concrete is a trade needed to know. In contrast, its competitor, asphalt, cannot do the

things that concrete can do like make stairs, walls, frames, and many more. Nevertheless,

concrete is everywhere around the world.
