Q1. Advertisements attracts people’s attention to a specific product or service with the

objective of enhancing sales. Traditionally, advertisements are carried out through television

commercials, billboards, online advertisements et cetera. Real content refers to information or

working process exhibited to the audience in a bid to promote a brand by showing its

effectiveness or functionality. As such, advertisements enhance a product in the market while

advertisement aims at building and developing relationships with the clients. Real content calls

for the clients to go after a brand since the product or the service offers the best solution to their

issues.

Q2. In most cases, a hospital, a school, a college, an office building, a factory, a church, a

bank, and a post office can be differentiated through observations at a distance, based on the

workers and structural appearance of the building. For instance, in a hospital setting, physicians

and nurses often wear a designated uniform which can be spotted from a distance. Structurally,

the ground floor does not feature a courtyard although the other floors have a courtyard open to

the sky. Similarly, a school can be differentiated by observing the structures and the learners in

the facility, who in moist cases wear a specific uniform unlike a college where uniforms are

largely inexistence. A factory points to a manufacturing process where roaring of engines can be

heard. They feature a big and open warehouse to harbor the machineries for various process

undertaken at the facility. A church can be differentiated through the presence of praise and

worship songs, preaching, or a large and open structure.

Q3. The phrase “medium is the message” asserts that the medium is tied to the content it

depicts. The significance of a message is tied to its representation rather than the content it

carries. Development of various technologies throughout the history of advancements have been
2

integral to societal changes rather than the communication. The decision to utilize a specific

media for mass communication holds significant value to the person utilizing it. For instance,

taking into account a film and a website, film provides the audience with a linear experience as

they participate from beginning to the end. The concentration directed to the film stems from

planning and development which takes place in integrated phases. Irrespective of the message,

the medium largely determines the attention and participation. When similar contents are

transferred to a website, the information ceases to be linear as it is split in different sections and

phases introducing segmentation.

Q1. The article assesses various theories fronted to oppose or propose that the earth is

flat. Despite strong scientific evidence fronted by prominent scholars in the ancient society in the

Hellenistic period that earth was spherical, there have been other theories put forward by

individual opposed to the idea. The article recognizes the evolution of theories and the

controversy surrounding the idea, terming the opponents of the spherical earth as unaffiliated

individuals utilizing social media. In my analysis, the article presents both sides of the “earth is

flat” and spherical earth theories denoting the significance of each. It incorporates plethora of

resources, some of which are unverified information from unverified individuals. The article

incorporates some claims that are not adequately referenced although informs the reader that a

full citation is needed. Majority of the sources used are not scholarly sources which cast doubt on

the credibility of the information presented.

Q2a. Wikipedia neutral point of view details the rules and conditions under which the

articles are published in the platform. It serves to inform the writers of the significance of

holding a neutral point of view through incorporating information that can be verified, depicting
3

fairness and proportionally without any form of biasness. Further it outlines various guidelines

for writers to follow while writing and researching.

Q2b. The author of “Ignorance of light travelling in curves” discussion post asserts that

the statement should be flagged and removed because it lacks sufficient proof and explanation to

satisfy the neutral point of view criteria. The author asserts that the statement is misrepresented

and misleading. For it to hold, there is need for explanation which is not provided by the author

of the article.

Q2c. I agree that the information is misleading and does not represents the actual facts

concerning travelling of light in curves. The author of the article utilizes the light travelling in

curved lines to defend an idea without incorporating sufficient explanation and evidence.

Refraction of light and bending of lights are two distinct ideas and the integration of the phrase

lacks sufficient ground to support the author’s intentions.

Verifiability

Q3a. Wikipedia’s policy for verifiability requires authors to ensure the information

contained in their articles are sourced for reliable sources. It asserts that the information

incorporated ought to be verifiable and whenever two sources that are verified contrasts, a

neutral point of view should prevail. This implies claims should be accompanied by citations

form reliable sources.

Q3b. The author of “Early antiquity believed?” cites lack of verifiability of the

information presented since there are no citations provided to support the provided claims

concerning flatness of the earth. The writer claims that the information lacks any kind of

verifiable source and the information presented is an individual claim, and as such, should be

deleted from the article.

4

Q3c. The information violates the verifiability policy as it lacks the evidence to support

ancient people’s claim that earth was flat. There is contradiction of the information provided in

the article with the claim “In early Mesopotamian thought the world was portrayed as a flat disk

floating in the ocean.” It is not clear whether this was in reference to the world or the land

surface on the earth. The assertions cannot be verified, hence does not satisfy verifiability policy.

No Original Research

Q4a No original research policy holds that the information presented in an article should

be reliable and derived from an already existing source irrespective of whether it is fact, idea, or

allegation. This implies that the sources used should be assessed adequately to ensure they are

reliable before they are incorporated in an article.

Q4b. The author of “Continual removal of fact tag” asserts that some claims in the article

are not anchored on a reliable source and should be deleted. The idea lacks merit and

the sources provided refer to individual point of view rather than from a reliable source.

Q4c. Indeed, based on the information provided in the article, the idea is not sourced

from a reliable source and cannot be verified from an external or existing source. This violates

the Wikipedia policy of no original research, as it is a mere representation of allegation and

ideas. The information should be sourced from a reliable source to fulfill the requirements of the

policy.
