Hammer Hydraulic System

SMCS - 6333

Color Code for Graphics

Fluid throughout the hydraulic hammer can serve multiple functions. In order to help describe each function, passages have been assigned a color. Red is supply
oil, green is return oil, the remainder of passage colors do not correlate with the pressure of the oil.

Valve body (1) and accumulator (19) contain a nitrogen charge and adds additional power to accelerate piston (15) downward.

Grease fitting (17) is used in order to lubricate tool (9) within upper bushing (8) and lower bushing (10). Lubrication passage (18) is isolated from the hydraulic
system.

When down pressure is applied to the hammer, tool (9) will raise piston (15). This causes switch land (7) to cover ASO passage (6). Supply oil through inlet port
(11) will flow along inlet passage (14) and act against the bottom of switch land (7). This action will move piston (15) upward.

As piston (15) moves upward, the nitrogen gas charge in valve body (1) is compressed by piston (15). Simultaneously, oil will flow to accumulator (19)
compressing the nitrogen charge of the accumulator.

As piston (15) moves upward, oil flows from the area between piston (15) and seal carrier (12) and will exit through acceleration passage (3). Oil will then flow
around distributor stem (13) from acceleration passage (22) and will exit through tank passage (21). Oil will exit the hydraulic hammer through outlet port (2).
Piston (15) continues to move upward until switch passage (5) is uncovered by the bottom of switch land (7).

This action ends the lifting cycle.

When the lower side of switch land (7) raises above switch passage (5), supply pressure from inlet port (11) will flow into switch passage (5) through inlet passage
(11). Switch passage (5) connects to a channel that is around distributor stem (13). Oil through switch passage (5) forces distributor stem (13) upward. When
distributor stem (13) is in the upper position, tank passage (23) is closed. Acceleration passage (22) is now open to inlet pressure from inlet port (11). Oil will now
flow around piston (15) through passage (3) and to the top land of the piston. This action will begin the downward movement of piston (15).

The nitrogen charge in valve body (1) provides additional power that is required to accelerate piston (15) downward. The nitrogen charge within the accumulator
will act on the additional volume of oil stored. The accumulator will assist in providing the required oil to force piston (15) downward.

Piston (15) continues downward until switch passage (5) is uncovered by the top of switch land (7). Opening switch passage (7) above switch land (7) begins the
switch/startup cycle.

Oil from switch passage (5) is now able to flow into tank passage (2). Since switch passage (5) is open to tank, distributor stem (13) is no longer forced upward.
Oil that is inside distributor stem (13) can now flow to the top of distributor stem (13). Due to a greater surface area on top of distributor stem (13), oil pressure
moves distributor stem (13) to the lower position. Tank passage (23) assists in the downward movement of distributor stem (13). As a result, acceleration passages
(22) are blocked.

Piston (15) continues downward until switch passage (5) is uncovered by the top of switch land (7). Opening switch passage (5) begins the switch/startup cycle.

Oil from switch passage (5) flows into tank passage (4) allowing distributor stem (13) to shift downward to the lifting position. Tank passage (23) assists in the
downward movement of distributor stem (13) , blocking acceleration passages (22).

Piston (15) continues to move downward with enough force to impact tool (9), creating a shock wave. Once piston (15) impacts tool (9), piston (15) begins the
lifting cycle.

The process repeats as long as there is enough down pressure being applied to the hammer. If there is not enough down pressure, switch land (7) on piston (15) will
drop far enough to uncover ASO passage (6). The hammer will stop functioning.

If there is not enough down pressure being applied to the hammer, tool (9) will not completely seat on the thrust ring of the hammer. This condition will allow
piston (15) to drop further in the piston sleeve causing ASO passage (6) to be uncovered. Supply pressure from inlet port (11) will flow around piston (15) and
above switch land (7) and then to tank passage (4). Piston (15) will then be forced in the downward position preventing the hammer from operating until enough
down pressure is applied to tool (9).
