2. The report is described as a draft report. What does this mean? (Pg. 83
A.6)
Draft means not in its final form. It must still be checked and proofread and
open for comments.

3. Who is the news report for? What is its purpose? (Pg. 83 B.1)
UN report for UN or government or a news report for public. The purpose
is to inform on climate change.

4. Explain the purpose of the following punctuation in the report: (Pg:83. B.4)
a. the colon in the headline
The colon introduces an explanation – to explain to the reader where the
statement is from.

b. the speech marks in the first sentence


For quoting the terminology from the report.

c. the comma in the long sentences in the second paragraph.


It helps to mark out the meaning and create a pause.

III. Answer the following questions: (A biased view Pg: 92)


1. Look at the photo on page 92 and title of the article. What do they
suggest?
They suggest that those particular penguins in the picture are in great danger.

2. Is this a literal or figurative image of what is happening to penguins?


Explain why?

Figurative. It is symbolic of the situation.

3. What effect does it have on the reader?


It makes the reader shocked or sympathetic.

4. Find examples of figurative language in the rest of the text. What is the
writer suggesting in each one?
Example : ‘Global warming strikes hard’ suggests the situation is serious.
