Even before the pandemic, the quality of education in the Philippines has

always been an issue in the country. A big difference between the quality of

education in private and public schools is imminent. In addition to that, the

history of the Philippines is slowly forgotten by Filipino children since social

studies as a subject is only taught to elementary students, specifically to grade

5 and 6 students. It was also mentioned by Bonz Magsambol in his article, that

the poor quality of education in the Philippines is also caused by the allotment

of our government for education. The government's allocation for education is

merely 3% unlike the standard 6%. DepEd has its issues as well. The re-

opening of classes after the wave of COVID-19 cases has gone down. The

Philippines was the last country to open schools, even later than those

neighboring countries that are poorer than the Philippines. A coalition of 35

organizations and 25 experts called the Education Nation was recommending

to the public as their criteria in choosing the right candidate for what they

called “Education President". And in a result of their survey, they gave Leni

Robredo a 10/10 and said "Robredo is the leader that can solve our learning

crisis." Before the elections, the Education Nation encourages the public to vote

for a president “with a detailed strategy to take us out of this mess.”

In conclusion, the issue regarding the low quality of education in the

Philippines must be a whole government approach. Meaning that it should not

only be addressed by the Department of Education (DepEd) but by the

President. Having an education of quality is a very important aspect to have

since it has been proven that it will affect the future of our country.
