    Zener diodes are a special type of PN junction diode that can work in both forward and reverse bias. They regulate voltage by allowing current to flow in the reverse direction when a breakdown voltage is reached. Varactor diodes are also called voltage variable capacitance diodes. They are used in electronic tuning circuits where the depletion layer capacitance varies with the reverse voltage applied. Schottky diodes have no depletion layer, resulting in very fast switching times and no reverse recovery time, making them suitable for applications requiring high switching frequencies.
