QUESTIONS TO ANSWER:

1. Biogeochemical cycles are life support to the ecosystem. Explain this statement.
- These cycles demonstrate the way in which the energy is used. Through the ecosystem, these cycles
move the essential elements for life to sustain. They are vital as they recycle elements and store them
too, and regulate the vital elements through the physical facets.

2. Give at least five negative effects of human activities on the biosphere.

- Climate change, ocean acidification, permafrost melting, habitat loss, eutrophication, stormwater
runoff, air pollution, contaminants, and invasive species are among many problems facing
ecosystems.

3. Differentiate the terms environment and ecosystem.

- Environment refers to the surroundings, whereas, ecosystem is the interaction between the
environment and the living organisms. Environment is the area where living organisms live. Ecosystem
is the community where the biotic and abiotic elements interact with each other.
