Preface
Prestressed concrete is a structural material that allows for
predetermined, engineering stresses to be placed in members to
counteract the stresses that occur when they are subject to loading. It
combines the high strength compressive properties of concrete with the
high tensile strength of steel. In ordinary reinforced concrete, stresses
are carried by the steel reinforcement, whereas prestressed
concrete supports the load by induced stresses throughout the
entire structural element. This makes it more resistant to shock and
vibration than ordinary concrete, and able to form long, Content
thin structures with much smaller sectional areas to support
equivalent loads.
Chapter 1 Overview 1
It is now commonly used for floor beams, piles and railways sleepers, as Chapter 2 Materials for Prestressing 55

Generally, prestressed concrete is not necessary for columns and walls, Chapter 4 Finite Element Technique 199

The objective of this book is to develop an understanding of the basic Chapter 9 Erection of Precast Members 586
principles of prestressed concrete structures analysis and design in
detailed nine chapters. The main chapters on this book deals with the
analysis and design of prestressed concrete building members, either in
therotical side of view or in analytical step-by-step procedures to enable
students (4th year in civil engineering departments) to make an easier
transition from theory to problem solving. Numerous resreches were
listed in full details that consider cases studies, and some of them were
full scale test in field. Note that all the numbers founded in examples
must be rechecked and reviewed again by students and interested, that
because its made as a hidden exercised and training for hand
calculation techniques.
