INSTRUCTIONS FOR STUDENTS

(LOW&MEDIUM)
Project Title: “Departmental Journal”

By the completion of this project task, students will be able to explore their thoughts, feelings, and
experiences, and build their public speaking skills by writing a journal, doing research, and
presenting.

This project aims to;

1. let students write a journal to improve students’ self-reflection, facilitate critical thought,
boost their problem-solving abilities, and increase their ability of writing focused arguments.

2. give students the opportunity to do some research, answer some predetermined questions
helps students to have proper in-depth analysis of the related content and enhance the
knowledge of the subject matter.

3. let students delivering a presentation, give students the opportunity to present the
combination of their personal insights and their research findings on their departments.

Expectations in the project:

1. Students are provided with a few questions in advance, and they are expected to write their
answers in a journal.

2. Students can show their journals for progress check to their advisors during the days given
in the Deadline Chart, on page 3.

3. Students prepare a PPT to present the summary of their writings in the journal and share it
with their peers in class.

Instructions for Students:

● You will work individually in this project.


● You will write a journal based on the questions provided to you in a word document.
● The format of the word document will be Times New Roman, 12 pts, double space, black.
● There will be three different parts in the journal, and each part in the journal will include a
different subject matter.
● You must submit the parts of the project according to the deadlines in the chart. Make sure
you abide the deadlines on page 3.
● You will submit your documents both on Teams assignments that your advisors will create
and on Turnitin where your advisors will form a class.
● Any late submission will be penalized 5 points for each day.
● The project will be submitted in soft copy format (in OneDrive folder and on turnitin).
● You will present your journal to the whole class in week 7.
● Students can integrate video into their presentation with maximum duration of 1 minute.

● The time limit of presentations is 4-5 minutes. Presentations above / below the time limit
will be penalized.
● Any kind of plagiarism will not be tolerated, and the project score will be “0” (zero).

Part 1;

1. What are the reasons for you to choose this department?


2. Who has influenced your department choice? How?
3. Did you do any research about your department?
4. Did you get ideas regarding your department from anybody around you?
5. How did your parents guide you about choosing your department?
6. What are the possible difficulties you will have when you start working?

Part 2;
1. Do research on an expert, an entrepreneur, or a celebrity in your field of study, and write about
a. what contributions/achievements/failures s/he has,
b. what characteristics s/he has. (optional)
2. Would you like to have a similar career with that person? Why or Why not? Explain your
reasons in detail.

Part 3;

1. Do research on a device / technique / application / approach / innovation etc. which is commonly


used in your field and write about it in your journal. When was it used first, who used it first, why is
it commonly used in today’s world?
2. What kind of advantages does that specific device / technique / application / approach /
innovation etc. have; and what kind of drawbacks are there about it?
