What do you think is the importance of studying the Life and Works
of Rizal? (aside from its compulsory, of course)

Studying the Life and Works of Rizal may not be truly relevant in one’s
career but it is significant to know our roots and understand its complexity for us
to become a better Philippine citizen and to cherish more the freedom that we
have. This subject will teach us the basics, the complexities, and the generality of
Dr. Jose Rizal and I think this is very important for us, young students, to know
more about him and his works because it will make us understand where we came
from, it will make us acknowledge and appreciate the sacrifices of the national
heroes who fought for our freedom. Studying this subject is also important
because it will keep our burning patriotism alive.

2. Is/Are there any provision/s in RA 1425 that you think is/are not strictly
followed? Why do you think so?

• Section 1 of RA 1425 states that courses of Rizal and his writing shall
be included in all schools’ curricula. Back in high school, they do
actually include the Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo in Filipino
curricula, the actual problem is teaching it to the students. I get that it
does not actually not strictly followed since they are teaching it. But,
their approach on teaching these lessons doesn’t really make a change
to a student. Based on past experience, they do not really teach it, they
don’t make us understand the context of the book and I don’t think it’s
right because there are students out there who really wants to learn
more Rizal and his works but then they were not really lucky to have a
good instructor. Just to clarify, ma’am, I was talking about my past
experiences and we are really lucky to have a such great RIZAL
instructor.
• Section 3 of RA 1425. There are lack of free books to be distributed. It
would have been good if this section is strictly followed but it is not
and it’s saddening considering the outcomes it will bring; patriotic
young children.
