Data Analysis Procedure

To analyze the data gathered, the researchers used the Interpretative Phenomenological

Analysis. Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis is an approach to qualitative research

concerned with exploring and understanding the lived experience of a specified phenomenon.

(Smith, 2004)

As a methodology in its own right rather than simply a means of analyzing data,

interpretative phenomenological analysis involves the detailed examination of participants’ life

worlds’; their experiences of a particular phenomenon, how they made sense of these

experiences, and the meanings they attached to them.

Phenomenological methods are particularly effective at bringing to fore the experiences

and perceptions of individuals from their perspectives, and therefore, at challenging structural or

normative assumptions.
