INTRODUCTION

Welcome to Anatomy and Physiology – Laboratory (MC101-L) for BS Nursing students.

I am your professor, Julius Kevin Cura. I am a biologist from the Natural Sciences and

Mathematics (NSM) Department of NDMU. This learning material is specifically designed for BS

Nursing students like yourself. MC101-L is a course that will facilitate your learning on cellular

physiology, tissue biology, early human embryogenesis and human anatomy and physiology

through laboratory lectures and activities.

This course will use flexible learning approach (synchronous - real time interaction with

teacher and classmates and asynchronous – independent study/tasks by individual student or small

group work). It is therefore important that you familiarize the mode of delivery of instruction and

the guidelines that go with it including the netiquette for online learning.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course (MC101-L) aims to discuss concepts, principles and theories in human

anatomy and physiology that are useful in health and clinical sciences. This course introduces

students to anatomical terms used to describe body sections, body regions, and relative positions.

MC101 also covers topics on basic cell biology, cellular physiology, and tissue biology to properly

and smoothly explain concepts and ideas regarding different human organ systems.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the course, students should be able to:

a. become acquainted with the various levels of organization of the human body;

b. integrate anatomical structures with functions that involve support, movement, integration,

coordination, transport, absorption, and excretion within the human body;

c. explore the human life cycle in the process of reproduction, growth, and development; and

d. develop skills for applications in laboratory and health care services.

MODULES

Disclaimer: The modules developed in this subject were adopted and compiled by the professor to

guide the learning of the student. The learning materials are taken from various sources. The

professor does not claim them as his own. The sources are identified in each section in the module

and learning material that will be made available for the student. The modules are generally

organized into the following sections:

INTRODUCTION. This gives an overview or a brief background of the lesson/module. It

enhances further the focus of the lesson/module and clarity of the challenge.

LEARNING OUTCOMES. This part contains the objectives of each lesson/module. These

include the learning competencies, content standards, observable behavior, audience, and criterion

level.

ACQUISITION OF NEW KNOWLEDGE. This is the professor’s part during synchronous

sessions where new information is presented. Lectures may be conducted using the Big Blue

Button of Schoology or Zoom.

ASSIGNMENT/APPLICATION. This part of the module allows the student to practice what

he/she has learned. This is the phase where the student shows evidence of learning. The assignment

or application is given as an asynchronous task and is uploaded in the Schoology course for this

subject.

ASSESSMENT. This part of the module aims to evaluate how much the student has learned from

the synchronous sessions and the module itself and the other learning materials provided for the

topic. Assessments are recorded as quizzes and may be conducted synchronously or

asynchronously.

FURTHER READINGS/ REFERENCES. This include list of books, articles, research journals

and online sources that are relevant for the better understanding of the topic in the module.

MANAGEMENT OF SYNCHRONOUS SESSIONS

o Synchronous sessions will be conducted using the Big Blue Button of Schoology or Zoom. It

is a requirement for the student to have the Zoom app or software in his/her smart phone or

laptop. Should the session be conducted via Zoom, the student will be notified at least 24 hours

before the synchronous session of the invite.

o An official Facebook Group Chat (GC) will be maintained where official pieces of

announcement and information will be sent by the professor. The student may also post

important questions on the GC. The student must not share or post unnecessary contents in the

official GC such as Tiktok videos, memes, unnecessary GIFs and the like.

o The student must log in at least five minutes before the start of the synchronous session. The

official invite to Zoom will be posted in the Updates of the Schoology course and on the official

GC at least 24 hours before the session starts should it be conducted though this platform.

o The student should inform the professor via text or private message thru messenger or

schoology if he/she is having troubles with his/her internet connection especially if it may lead

to the student’s absence, tardiness or early leaving from the synchronous session. Some class

sessions are recorded to allow the student to catch up with the rest of the class.

o The synchronous session starts with a prayer followed by the checking of the attendance. The

synchronous session ends with a prayer.

o The students are expected to study the module and other learning materials provided and

actively participate during the synchronous session. The student must focus all attention to the

synchronous session and must avoid external disturbances.

o During synchronous sessions, the student must wear appropriate clothing (not necessarily a

uniform) even if his/her camera is turned off.

o The professor may provide inputs and pose essential questions related to the topic during

synchronous sessions that the student needs to answer immediately and accurately. This

assessment will be recorded as a graded recitation.

o The student is encouraged to ask questions and express clarifications during the class session.

MODULES AND ASYNCHRONOUS TASKS

o The module for each lesson will be uploaded in Schoology at least 7 days before the

synchronous session to provide the student reasonable time to prepare for the class.

o Asynchronous tasks in every topic are given after every synchronous session. These tasks may

be recorded as a quiz or an assignment.

o The student is given at least 7 days to complete the asynchronous tasks in every topic.

o Further readings are provided in the module but are not limited to them. The student can access

a wide range of learning resources online.

CONSULTATIONS

Anatomy and Physiology

Prepared by Julius Kevin Cura

o The student may consult the professor via email, Schoology inbox, Schoology updates, text,

private message thru messenger or the GC for queries, complaints or clarifications.

o The student must remember that the professor is not available online 24/7 and during

weekends. It is encouraged that consultations be done during the consultation time of the

professor or during class hours (7:30 AM to 5:30 PM) from Monday to Friday.

o The professor typically responds to the queries or concerns of the student within 24 hours of

the sending or posting of the query, complaint or clarification.

ATTENDANCE IN SYNCHRONOUS SESSIONS

There are 16 hours of synchronous sessions for the lecture and 32 hours for the laboratory.

Absences, tardiness and early leaving from the synchronous sessions are recorded. The student

must promptly explain to the professor the reason for the absence, tardiness or early leaving from

the synchronous sessions via text, private message thru messenger or private message thru the

Schoology inbox. Determination of the validity of the reason will be based on truthfulness and

reasonability. The student who misses the lessons for any reason is expected to catch up by

studying the recorded sessions, modules, E-books and other learning materials provided in every

topic in the Schoology course. The student may also set an appointment with the professor for a

consultation via text, private message thru the Schoology inbox or messenger. Consultations with

the professor is encouraged to help the student catch up with the lesson/s that he/she has missed.

SUBMISSION OF REQUIREMENTS

The student must submit every requirement on time. An explanation must be provided by

the student for not meeting the deadline of the submission. The explanation may be sent via text,

private message thru messenger or private message thru the Schoology inbox. Submissions which

are sent within 3 days after the deadline may be considered for valid reasons. Submissions which
