Art Appreciation

Assessment: Art Commentary

• Subject of the artwork: What is it all about?

- Evidently, the artwork falls under Representational/Figurative Art because it

depicts a true to life scene. It’s a landscape of a pathway towards the calm sea.

• Content of the artwork: What do you think the artist wanted to

communicate? - Is it factual, conventional, or subjective?

- I believe this particular artwork can be factual, conventional and subjective all at
once, it really just depends on the viewer. However, I personally see it more as
subjective because a pathway towards the sea for me symbolizes calmness, as
well as a reminder to just let go and flow. This perception is mainly based on my
personal experience because I always go to the beach to unwind and reflect
about my thoughts.

• If you could change one thing about this picture, what would it be? Why?
- If I could change one thing about this artwork it would probably be the chosen colors
of the painting. I think slightly bluer hues for the sea would be more fitting and calming
to look at instead of the gray tones that were used. A hint of green hues would also
be nice for the grass part in my opinion because green represents life for me.

• What would the title be if you had created this? - I think ‘Tranquila’ is a good
title if I was the one who created this. The whole setting depicts calmness and peace.
There isn’t a single person in there, nor any other object seen, just pure stillness and
serenity.

• What prompted you to select this image over other artworks? - I have
always been a fan of neutral/minimal home decors and this particular art has always
been my most favorite in our home because I love the beach and I love its neutral
colors. Even though I said that I’d like to change some of its hues, I still think that its
current colors and accent are what spoke to me and touched me in the first place.
