MUSIC
NOH- a type of theatrical music in Japan music played by an instrumental ensemble called Hayashi-
kata.
KABUKI music are divided into 2 categories
GAGAKU- oldest of Japan’s musical traditions and includes dances and songs in two styles.
- Refers to traditional Korean music and other related art forms including songs, dances,
and ceremonial movements.
PANSORI- is a genre of musical storytelling performed by a vocalist and a drummer.
ODAIKO- means “big drum” and the world’s largest drum in Japan.
KOTO- Long Japanese board zither having 13 silk strings and movable bridges.
GUZHENG- is a traditional popular Chinese musical instrument and can be considered the equivalent
of the piano in western music.
HAEGUM- A Korean percussive bow string instrument. It is a very popular instrument in Korea today.
SHAMISEN- A plucked spike-lute chordophone of Japan that has been popular in folk, art, andtheater
music since the middle of the 17 th century.
PENTATONIC SCALE-common melody is used in Chinese music.
SOGAK- Music that expresses people’s emotions. It represents one of the two categories of the
traditional Korean court music from Joseon Dynasty
