ROTC is a must. It is no longer an option.

According to Villanueva (2016), that the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is studying the
possibility of incorporating the Reserve Officers Training Corps program to the K-12 program if
mandatory ROTC will be revived.

One part of the NSTP program is the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC). Its purpose is to give senior
highschool with military training in order to encourage, train, organize, and mobilize them for national
defense readiness. This is one of the best leadership and adventure training programs available since it
teaches real-world skills. It can also help future cadets and soldiers improve discipline, character, and
hone their abilities.

For years Filipino people have grown soft and weak and also disrespectful due to the lack of discipline
among the students. More and more activist against the government is popping up. The mandatory
ROTC is a crucial step on changing and building our country.

The mandatory ROTC was abolished in 2002 after the death of University of Santo Tomas student Mark
Chua, whose killing was linked to his exposé on the anomalies in the training corps and since then the
mandatory ROTC program is no more.

But the Administration of Duterte and the presumptive Vice president Sara Duterte (2022) is returning
the ROTC program to its mandatory form. She wants those over 18 years old, male and female to
undergo Reserve Officer Training Corps, not as a weekend or once a month subject especially to SHS.

AFP spokesman Brig. Gen. Restitutu Padilla (2017), said that the Department of Education (DepEd) to
include the ROTC in the curriculum of senior high school students. He explained that student in their
senior year of high school are already qualified to participate in a military course. They should be given
the opportunity to apply for both employment and military service after graduation.

Lots of people have opposed the program, especially the Senior High School student due to their beliefs
that the program is harsh unnecessary, just a waste of time especially in their academic performance
and it just an additional burden.

But those claims are not always true according to the information I wrote above.

Although our government is not seeking for war we must always be prepared for it, especially at this
times of tense relation between us and our neighbouring countries, so we wont be caught off guard and
unprepared, like what happened with Ukraine and Russia.

Our people must always be prepared especially student or youth to defend themselves and their
country and rights, not cowering around not knowing what to do next, due to the lack of experience and
training.

We cannot just depend on other countries to defend as of pray for the mercy of the attackers.
We have to stand up for our selves and for what we believe.

That is only one of the many reasons why the ROTC program is not useless or unnecessary.
