What is Happening in the Philippines?

The past few weeks, the Philippines has seen

devastations from 3 typhoons (Quinta, Rolly, and
Ulysses). The consequences of these typhoons
were dire. People have lost their belongings, their
houses, and to some, their loved ones. All in the
backdrop of the still ongoing COVID-19
pandemic.
But this is not the end. Forecasts suggest that
this will only get worse in the coming years.
Unfortunately, this is only the beginning of the
climate crisis devastation that will continue to
haunt us, in the Philippines and the world.
As the climate crisis worsens, critically in the
Philippines, how can we contribute to the solution
as individuals (and corporations)?

What can we do?
1. Reduce Carbon Footprint —

-Shifting to Clean Energy Sources like wind, solar,

geothermal, and hydropower.
-Stopping Deforestation
-Establishing a better Waste Management system to
lessen the pollution of our surrounding waters
-Reusing and Recycling.
-Supporting locally-produced and organic food, and
starting a plant-based diet by cutting meat and dairy.
2. Support Climate Action Organizations
-Support your local organizations that fight forClimate
Action. Research the organizations/companies you are
currently supporting if they are doing their part to reduce
their carbon footprint.
3. Vote for Climate
-Vote for government officials who will build systemic
changes in fighting the climate crisis. Vote for candidates
who support and will improve climate-friendly policies in
the country— including improving the country’s
disaster risk management policies.
