Just recently on the 16th of December 2021, Super Typhoon Rai, locally known as Odette,

brought torrential rains, violent winds, mudslides, floods, and storm surges to the central-
southern Philippines, specifically the Visayas and Mindanao Islands, with maximum
sustained winds of 195km/h and gustiness of 260km/h. The Typhoon affected an estimated
16 million people across the six worst-hit regions, leaving about 2.4 million people in need of
assistance. This is heartbreaking to several families who lost their homes, loved ones and
have no access to electricity nor water, especially when holidays are coming. I remembered
on the night that it happened, the winds were so strong and wild that I was scared that our
roof would come off but fortunately in the grace of God it never happened. The morning after
the typhoon, I saw a lot of trees toppled over and crushed a lot of houses, and people were
devastated. I was frozen in terror that this helped me realize that our earth is vulnerable, as
it is facing accelerating dangerous effects of climate change also referred to as global
warming.

Today I want to tell you about one of the most pressing social issues that threaten our
existence, climate change. Well, what exactly is climate change and why should we care?
Climate change is a phenomenon that is occurring every minute. This refers to any
significant changes in the measure of climate, lasting over an extended period. This means
that climate change can affect our environment, daily life and may affect every species on
earth. Therefore, in order to avoid this from happening we need to act now. Not later, not
tomorrow but right now.

97% of climate scientists believe that this isn’t the cause of the earth rather, it is caused by
human activity. Yes, it is caused by you and me. We are the main catalyst of changes in
climatic conditions. Human activities that harm the climate include deforestation, using fossil
fuel, industrial waste, generating powers, manufacturing goods, and many more. As a result,
these things damage the climate and ecosystem very badly.

We, people, do these things in order for us to reach our desires. However, other people
suffer from it. For example, the farmers will most likely suffer from the worst impacts of
climate change and pay a big price for their crops that are destroyed by the disaster. The
issue of global warming is real, and we have already seen its devastating effects. Let us not
wait for more people, animals, and nature dying. The thing is, we need to come to our
senses! We need an awakening in ourselves, awakening in our city, awakening in our
nation, and awakening in our world! We have less than 30 years left to make a difference. If
we merely ignore this we will face our doom. But it is not too late to hold our hands and
together create a better world for ourselves and the other generations to come.

So I have here three ways to somehow solve climate change. These actions are simple but
they will greatly benefit our world. First, reduce, reuse, and recycle. These are the three
essential components of environmentally-responsible consumer behavior. The goal of the 3
R’s is to educate people on how to prevent excessive and unnecessary waste and to limit
the consumption of non-renewable resources. Second, Switch to sustainable transport.
Reducing car use, switching to electric vehicles, and minimizing plane travel will not only
help stop climate change but will also reduce air pollution too. Last, spread your knowledge
and concerns about climate change. That way you can educate people and spread
awareness about climate change

In conclusion, climate change is a serious deal. It can drastically affect our home. It’s down
to all of us to save it. It’s time for us to make decisions and take actions that will mitigate the
challenges brought about by changes in climate. We need to apply these three ways to
overcome this crisis. The first is to reduce, reuse and recycle, the second is switching to
sustainable transport and the third is to share your knowledge and concerns about climate
change. For this solution to work, we must act, cooperate and take collective action now
because we’re running out of time. Quoting what Albert Einstein says, "The world will not be
destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything."

I’m-----------. Thank You.
