Normal vs HeLa

HYPOTHESIS:

If HeLa cells can be used as a cure for chromosomal abnormalities, then we could cure people who has
them.

RESULTS AND INTERPRETATION:

Based from my findings, Hela cells were widely used to cure polio, AIDS, some cancers and etc. these
cells were used by scientists to develop a cancer research method that tests whether a cell line is
cancerous or not. This method proves so reliable that scientists use it to this day.

Title: Normal vs HeLa

Figures description:

A normal karyotype has 46 chromosomes while a HeLa karyotype has 76-80 chromosomes

Conclusion:

There is a possibility that using HeLa cells could be used to add or take chromosomes in the human cell.

Guide questions

1. Why are cancer cells considered abnormal cells?

 Cancer cells uncontrollably divide themselves. The old cells don’t die but they divide
uncontrollably and forms abnormal cells. Because of this uncontrollable outbreak, it
forms a tumor.
2. What goes wrong during the cell cycle in cancer cells?
 In cancer cells, they accelerate the cell division even faster than normal cells which
causes uncontrollable division.
3. What are the main causes of cancer?
 Environmental factors, lifestyle, biological factors such as age, gender, inherited genetic
defect
4. What makes some genes related to increased cancer risk?
 If a person has made an error in the DNA repair gene, the error remains uncorrected
thus, these mistakes becomes mutation which causes cancer.
5. What other types of diseases are caused by malfunctioning of the cell during cell cycle?
 Alzheimer’s disease
 Huntington’s Disease
 Parkinson’s disease
