Overview
MILLETS?
Millets are a group of cereal grains that belong
to the Poaceae family, commonly known as the
grass family.

It’s widely consumed in developing counties

throughout Africa and Asia. While it may look
like a seed, millet’s nutritional profile is similar
to that of sorghum and other cereal.

Millets have gained popularity in the West

because they are glute-free and boasts high
protein, fiber, and antioxidant contents.

Attributes of
MILLETS
Millets are a group of small, round whole grains grown in India, Nigeria, and other
Asian and African countries. Considered an ancient grain, they are used both for
human consumption and livestock and bird feed.
They have multiple advantages over other crops, including drought and pest
resistance. They’re also able to survive in harsh environments and less fertile soil.
These benefits stem from their genetic composition and physical structure- for
example, it’s small size and hardness.

Further for the feedback, we’ve added two questions:

Since 2023 is going to be the International year of millets and currently, malnutrition
among women and children are a major concern, so what are your views to combat this
issue?
~ For the betterment of women and children’s nutrition we can make millets a superior part of
PDs, midday meals and other government initiatives to make them easily avail a nutritious
meal.

How can we make sure that no child is dying because of hunger?

~We need to better use the resources and diversify the food we eat and look at other cereals
too. Government is also looking after the same issue so that communities can grow locally
and eat locally.
