Dear Lord,

We thank you a hundredfold for the

infinite love and care that You have given
us. May we, in return, multiply it with love
and respect and add more faith. Subtract
the worldly desires and evil works in our
minds and hearts and divide Your
given talents to us. To sum it all,
may we be united in Your family.
Amen.
In this lesson, you are expected
to derive inductively the
relations among chords, arcs,
central angles and inscribed
angles
Identify which among the parts of the
circle describes the following definition.
A portion of
the
circumference
of a circle.
A line segment
whose
endpoints are
two points of
the circle.
Any straight line
from the center
of the circle to a
point on the
circumference.
A special chord
that passes
through the
center of the
circle.
A part of the circle
that is cut off by a
chord. A chord
divides a circle into
two segments.
A line that
intersects a
circle at exactly
one point.
Use the figure at the right to
identify the following:

1.Center
2.Chords
3.Radii
4.Diameter
5.Tangent Lines
Use the figure at the right to
identify the following:

6. Secant Lines
7. Central Angles
8. Semi-Circle
9. Intercepted arcs
10. Inscribed Angles
A central angle is an angle whose vertex is
the center and whose sides
contain two radii.

The measure of a central angle of a circle

is EQUAL to the measure of its
intercepted arc.

EXAMPLE 1
The measure of the
arc formed by two
adjacent arcs is the
sum of the
measure of the two
arcs.

EXAMPLE 2

If B is a point between two

other points A and C on a
circle,
then, AB + BC = AC
An INSCRIBED ANGLE is an angle whose
vertex is on a circle and whose sides contain
chords of the circle.

The arc that lies in the interior of an

inscribed angle and has endpoints on the
angle is called the INTERCEPTED ARC.

The measure of inscribed angle is equal

to one-half of intercepted arc.

EXAMPLE 3
If m∠UTV = 70, m∠VTY =
92 and m arc YZ= 88.
Answer the following:
1. m UV = __________
2. m∠VTZ = __________
3. m∠UTY = __________
4. m VY = __________
5. m∠UTZ = __________
In the figure, m AY =105, m
RY = 85 and m ∠ PAR = 35,
find:
1. m AP = __________
2. m∠YRA = __________
3. m∠AYP = __________
4. m PR = __________
5. m∠RPA = __________
