I. Information about the training center
 Located 78km away from Addis Ababa along Addis-Ambo Road.
 The training center offers two types of training:
✓ Short term training
✓ Level based training (I-V)
 Has the capacity of accommodating 200 regular trainees at a time.
 Established in 1981.
 Has given a Labour-based training courses for more than 10,000
practitioners.
 Has given training for foreign trainees in the occupation of Labour based
road construction and
maintenance using Labour intensive approach with locally available
resources.
 Has 24 hrs. power and water supply.
 Has internet service (broadband and Wi-Fi).
 Infirmary (clinic): On-site health care facility
 The training center has completed 244.5km and 41 km of gravel roads
through demonstration training at
Ginchi and Chancho project sites respectively.
 Has carried out the Research on gravel road construction with lime and
mechanical stabilization using
Labour based techniques at Chancho road project (or Demonstration
site).
 Has given training to more than 1,000 engineers and foremen on the causes
of damages of the universal
Rural Access Program (URRAP).


Vision
 To be the center of excellence in road academy and the best Labour based
road construction and
maintenance technology training center in Africa by 2030.

Mission
 To offer internationally and nationwide accepted and competent Training for
middle level road construction
and maintenance road practitioners in sufficient quantity and required
quality to meet the man power
demand of the road sector and short-term training to road engineers,
technicians and practitioners and
leaders using Labour-based techniques.

VI. Entry requirements for Level I to V

1. As per directive by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education for
level I.
2. COC competent of the Pre-requisite level for level II and above.
3. Ability to speaks, reads, writes and understands English.
4. Good moral character.
5. Physically and mentally fit.
6. Maximum age is 45 for tractor operation trainees.

VII. Facilities and services carried out by the training center
1. Trainings for Low volume Roads from level I to V for any customers.

maintenance courses
3. Provision of Assessment for level-based trainees in collaboration with
center of competence (COC).
4. Catering and meeting hall service for internal and external customers
with proportionate fee.
5. Full accommodation to trainees if it is subsidized by ERA.
