LIGHTING POLE

1. GENERAL

1.1 Scope
This document presents the light pole calculation Type of piles are limited to some pipe diameter
only that shall be analysis in this report. The following pipe diameter shall be analysis :

- Steel Pipe Pile diameter 1.5" SP

- Steel Pipe Pile diameter 2" 1.5"2"
SP

1.2 Codes, Standards and References

1.2.1 CPI Specification "CIV-DU-5240" CIVIL DESIGN CRITERIA
1.2.2 CPI Specification "CIV-DU-5009-H" STRUCTURAL DESIGN CRITERIA
1.2.3 "Foundation Analysis and Design", by Joseph E. Bowles
1.2.4 "Principles of Foundation Engineering" by Braja M. Das

1.3 Units
Metric Units are used unless noted otherwise

LIGHTING POLE

3.1 Axial Compression and Bending

Pile subjected to both axial compression and bending stresses shall be proportioned to satisfy the
following Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) requirements :

Pu Pu 8  M ux M uy 
1. For
 0.15  x    1.0
φ c Pn φ c Pn 9 
 φ b M nx φ b M ny

Pu  Mux Muy 
2. For Pu     1.0
φ c Pn
 0.15 2φcPn  φbMnx φbMny 

where:
Pu = factored axial compression load
Pn = nominal compressive strength considering the member as loaded by axial compression only
Øc = strength reduction factor (resistance factor) for compression members = 0.85
Mux = factored bending moment acting about the x-axis
Mnx = nominal moment strength for bending about the x-axis
Øb = strength reduction factor (resistance factor) for flexural members = 0.90
Muy = same as Mux except reffered to the y-axis
Mny = same as Mnx except reffered to the y-axis
