living with
more media
With everything stated above, we can safely say that I
am living with more media at the moment. I think it is
inevitable because media is indeed pervasive and we are
required to use it in a daily basis. Plus the fact that we are
used to it being in a generation where our lives is almost
centered in media. Let's just say that I am still happy that I
am NOT LIVING IN MEDIA. I couldn't imagine not having
personal connections with people that I love.
1. Post your infographics and include a short blurb about your
reactions to your "accounting" of your media use and habits.

2. Check the infographics of your classmates. What do you have in

common with your classmates, or what are some striking differences
you notice? What general themes are appearing here? What does it
say about your use of media?

3. Review the media perspectives in Baran and Davis. Choose one of

the perspectives and read through it again. If you were to put
yourself in that era, how would you interpret your media diets
themes according to that perspective? In another post, share 1-2
sentences (a thesis statement) that captures how the perspective
would see media and media use.

(Challenge: can you stretch yourself and try to be really extreme to

see how some researchers would regard or approach the study of
media? )

Hi everyone, good evening! It’s me Shannen again!

For today I’ll be sharing my media life yesterday as I summarize

my media diet history for the past 24 hours.

I don’t have online classes every monday so I specifically chose

the day where i’ll be in front of the screen most of the time. It is
actually amazing that after creating this infographic I am
amazed on how my world can rotate with social media
especially if it’s online class. It is actually alarming because we
are forgetting how to really live as human beings. Yes media
may be everywhere but if it is used without proper balance and
discipline it can actually eat us alive without us knowing.

As you can see below I used several forms of media which are
the phone, Ipad, laptop and the tv. More than half of it is
because of my academic work and the remaining half is for
socializing and entertainment purposes. I think it is very obvious
that my common ground with my classmates focuses on our
daily productivity. May it be academic, organizing our notes, or
even work. We spend most of our media time doing the
important stuff. And it is also very noticeable that we love
entertaining ourselves on the side. May it be tiktok, watching
netflix or just casually scrolling through social media just doing
normal GenZ stuff.

If I were to put myself in an era, choosing upon the four media

perspectives in the Baran and Davis reading I would definitely
say I am in the ‘meaning-making perspective’ era. After
analyzing my media diet I saw how I can categorize myself as
an ‘active audience’. I interact and question whatever I see on
any media platforms. May it be the news, or reality show or just
tiktok videos. It broadens everyone’s perspective about
something and I think this is the ‘healthiest’ era of media
perspective. As the reading says, an active audience that uses
media content to create meaningful experiences. Let us all be
an active audience in today’s society. Let us all be able to apply
the concept of the framing theory in our daily lives. Then
maybe, just maybe we’ll have a better mediapolis world to live
in.
