II. SUMMARY
The jornal entitled “language testing: what language teachers need to know”
Finocchiaro and Bonomo explain that at least there are five reasons why test is
administered in the teaching learning activity.
1. To grade students, so that the teacher can move them forward to the next higher class
or retain them at their present level.
2. Through appropriate instruments, teacher can set realistic standards of achievement
for groups or individuals. By comparing a test result with another similar class, the
teacher can judge whether the test is too easy or difficult, or whether the curriculum
needs revising or not.
3. Test can also help someone assess the effects of experiment. For example, through a
carefully controlled experiment, one may wish to do whether the students’ native
language in the classroom increases their program or not.
4. The confidence of the community or nation in a language program may sometimes be
based on the results of a testing program.
5. The three principle reasons for testing, as far as classroom teachers concerned are:
a) to diagnose the specific feature of language in which individual student or
groups are having difficulties,
b) to help teachers measure their ability as teachers,
c) to find out how much students have learned or achieved.

III. STRENGTH AND WEAKNESS

 Strength
The results of the research in this journal have been described quite
clearly, the discussion has also been made as detailed as possible, making
it easier for readers to understand the results of their research.
 Weakness
The method used in this journal is usually done as a research and not new
anymore and the data presented by the author is too little or incomplete.

IV. CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION

Conclusion:
Teachers and school management must encourage students to use the library
adequately. English teachers must also make themselves available and become
part of the O Level English language paper markers. If English teachers at
various schools participate in marking English O Level papers, new trends,
innovations, and changes in English O Level will be known to them so as to equip
their students with the information needed to pass the O Level English Language
on one occasion.
Suggestion:
The writing of this journal is good and the words contained in it are not too
difficult so that it is easily understood by the reader but it is better to discuss about
consonants and not too much so that the journal is shorter.
