Spring 2022 ENG 499: SEMINAR PAPER

3 CREDITS MARKS: 100

A seminar is ‘a class at a university or a college for a small group of students and a teacher to
study or discuss a particular topic’. There are other definitions too. For example, Peter Barry in
his Beginning theory points out that ‘a French seminar is not a group discussion but a kind of
extended lecture for graduate-level students’. In our course, Seminar Paper, we will follow the
first definition. Students will be taught, first, how to hold academic discussions and later
develop those discussions into academic papers following MLA style sheet. Once the paper is
ready, students will have to present them as seminars as well.
