Write a Reflection Paper about the poem, Sonnet 116 by William Shakespeare

According to Sarah Dessen “ No relationship is perfect, ever. There are always

some ways you have to bend, to compromise, to give up something in order to
gain something better. This is like William Shakespeare’s Sonnet 116 all about,
compromise, commitment, and communication. The poet emphasized that when we
love a person, we must commit and give our everything all the way. When you love, the
couples must keep the communication to maintain peace and harmony in the
relationship. When one sees imperfection to their significant other, we must talk but
never threaten someone to change just for us. If someone truly love and cherish us,
they will change naturally.

Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks. This line is particularly
my favorite. If someone think that physical appearance is one of the bases of love, then
it’s completely incorrect. It is a very shallow definition of love. We must see the beauty
from within and reading the soul of the person. We have to remember that physical
beauty fades, but a pure heart is timeless.
I am a true believer that true love will last to the test of time just like the eleven
and the 12th line means. Through good and bad, relationship stays strong just like a
bamboo tree that just bends when a strong wind occurs. Right now, I am in a long-
distance relationship, my boyfriend is living in a Canada. Due to Covid 19 he couldn’t
visit me. It’s hard honestly, we get into fights and so many misunderstanding because of
our indifferences but thankfully we get to reconcile each time.

I met him seven years ago in an online dating site when I was still working as a
housemaid in Jordan. We became great friends, no commitment or promises since I
have a contract to finish, and he was still on a process of divorce. We message mostly
everyday until one day he just disappeared. I thought it was just a short happiness like I
always get. Then 2018 came, I was already in the Philippines and working in a
construction company. He greeted me on my birthday, and we were able to catch up.
This time, I don’t have expectation once again, but he became very consistent. Our
connection became stronger and made our relationship official. It started great but later
we found so many things that we don’t like about each other and don’t agree on. But
despite all of this, we sort things out. We are trying our best to compromise and respect
each other. I am not going to say that our relationship is perfect, but we are doing our
best to keep us.
Each day we choose to love and understand each other. He is not trying to change
the way that I am, and I am not with him, instead we talk and let each other know why
we are hurt or angry about. We are now in a relationship for four years; it is way far from
perfect. It’s not always colorful but we are determined to commit to each other and
choose love. When we love truly and take its definition into action, nothing can go
wrong.
