Nations and their Values

Please respond to the 3 questions below (that each have 2 parts). Critically think about how
these countries’ values may impact their overarching worldview. Note that we are asking about
the general society and acknowledge that each nation has diverse people and diverse
worldviews

1. What does China value? Think of specific pieces of culture, customs/traditions, and what
the society advocates for (maybe on social media?)?

- The Chinese value is to be filial to parents. Following the traditional Chinese culture of
filial piety is a Confucian idea, according to Confucius we need to respect the elderly, if
our parents are old, we need to be responsible for their lives and also for their funeral
after their death. Another value is humility and prudence. It's about respecting the law
and preventing misconduct. Traditional Chinese culture promotes etiquette and the
need to be humble and courteous. The whole society promotes these traditional
Chinese cultures.

2. What is one worldview that you think Chinese society holds because of these values?

- These Chinese social values will make me want to know if them country has the same
social values as China when I get along with people from other countries, and I will be
humble and not arrogant. When I get gifts form others, I will give someone else a gift in
return.

3. What does Saudi Arabia value? Think of specific pieces of its culture, customs/traditions,
and what the society advocates for (you may need to do a little research)?

Saudi Arabia's values include generosity, courage, hospitality and maintaining strong family ties.
Because the people of Saudi Arabia embrace many social values influenced by their Islamic
values, these values preserve the ancient customs and traditions of Saudi Arabia.
4. What is one worldview that you think Saudi Arabian society holds because of these
values? + Is it different from China’s worldview?

- Because those values will make them more hospitable when interacting with people and
treat their families more friendly to avoid conflict and leave face to each other to better
maintain family relations.
- The Saudi Arabian worldview and the Chinese view of time are similar, and those values
are included in the Chinese worldview because the Chinese view of time is influenced by
the values of Confucianism, which includes the values of Saudi Arabia.

5. What does England value? Think of specific pieces of its culture, customs/traditions, and
what the society advocates for (you may need to do a little research)?

- British values are individual freedom, rule of law and respect. In early England, the
struggle against the upper-class king for a long time led to a strong focus on individual
freedom. And in the beginning, the society was too chaotic, and many people were not
bound by good laws, which led to a lot of chaos, including racial discrimination and faith
discrimination, which led to a lot of riots, which is why these values were introduced.

6. What is one worldview that you think English society holds because of these values? + Is
it different from China’s worldview?

- English values will make them more focused on personal development protecting the
rights of the individual and respecting the values, ideas and beliefs of others while not
imposing them on others. Laws are passed to establish codes of conduct and to protect
others.

- The English worldview and the Chinese view of time are similar in that they should
respect each person's traditional culture and beliefs, and both have laws and respect
them.
