Bhargav has ability but he needs to give his work sufficient thought and aim to
sustain his focus if he is to do as well as he should. Although he is willing to redo
work that doesn't hit the mark, often this would be avoidable if he made the effort to
have a clear idea of what to aim for and how to tackle the problems first time.
Concentration is sometimes lacking and has certainly hindered his progress.

BIOLOGY
Course Content
The boys have completed their topic of movement in humans, studying the
skeleton, joints and muscles. Next, they studied reproduction in flowering plants,
looking at flower structure and pollination. Finally, the boys studied reproduction
in animals. Human reproduction, growth and development were covered as part
of this topic.
Bhargav is a committed student who has worked very well this year in Biology. If I
have any complaint it is that, at times, he needs to temper his enthusiasm for topics
outside of our current focus as these have occasionally detracted from his focus.
He is intelligent and has been set a challenging target to which he rightly aspires; I
am very pleased that he has never shirked from the task and has met this easily
over the course of the year. This is a result of a strong work ethic and love of the
subject; he has engaged well with his peers in practical tasks and he is always
willing to take part in discussions involving the whole group. His summer
assessment was similarly strong, demonstrated a very good understanding of this
year's work, easily in line with expectations and illustrative of the sustained
progress that Bhargav has made.

CHEMISTRY
Course Content
The boys are studying the earth, rocks and chemistry of limestone. They extract
copper from its ore and make glass and concrete. After exam week, they will be
studying separation techniques.
The summer term has seen the completion of the Sketch Up Architecture project,
which in addition to the LED Night Light project, has formed the basis of the
examination content. Preparation was made for the summer examination by
revising a list of topics covered and looking at sample practice questions. This term
has also seen the start of a new “Target Machine” project, which will challenge
students to design a ping pong ball launcher through the use of iterative models.
This will be tested and evaluated by the end of the term.
ENGLISH
Course Content
English in Year 7 has focused on three areas of study: creative writing and a novel
in term 1, non-fiction and media in term 2, and poetry and/or drama in term 3. Each
term has also featured a ‘speaking and listening’ activity. The summer term has
included preparation for the examination, and continued focus on reading skills from
the Independent Study.

for Homeric society.
In the second part of the year, they have begun the Cambridge Latin Course and

minor games in order to develop a specialist area and continue to sample a
varied programme.

academic year, namely forces and their effects, current electricity and motion. The
final topic studied after the examination was energy.
P.S.H.E.
The primary purpose of the Year 7 PSHE programme is to help your son settle in to
school and increase his confidence within the support network of his peers. We have
spent time exploring relationships, bonding and coping with the challenges of
starting a new school. As part of the health and wellbeing strand, we have studied
diet, exercise and the effects of smoking. We have started the journey through the
sex and relationships education programme with a focus on puberty and the
changes the boys will be experiencing at this age. We have also covered the topics
of British values, cyberbullying and self-esteem. Additionally, we have spent time
looking at organisational and revision skills with the aim of embedding habits that will
stand them in good stead for assessments.
