RECOGNITION STAGE

In this stage, you will learn about how to communicate basic and close needs regarding your
immediate context. You will be presented with situations related to your daily life, physical
and personality descriptions of people. Also, you will start using the comparatives and
superlative. This unit aims to allow you to talk about what people is like and their appearance
by using the verb to be and the present simple.

Being able to describe people and their personalities is quite important. Every day, you deal
with descriptions in different contexts. In your personal life, at work, at the university, with
your friends. So, the idea here is that you can use what you learned during the unit and
describe people effectively. Besides, you will use the comparative and superlative forms to
establish similarities and differences of people or objects.

ACTIVITY

You will write a short essay (200-300 words) to a friend introducing yourself. Also, you are
going to describe your best friend or a family member, you must mention first, an introduction
about who that person is for you. Second, write a description of the person. Finally, write a
conclusion of why that person is your friend.

Individual Work.

This task will allow you to use the content practiced during the stage of recognition. As
individual task you will have to write:

1. A mail (short essay) to a friend introducing yourself, after, you are going to describe
your best friend or a family member. First, introduce your friend by saying who that
person is for you. Second, write a description of the person. Finally, write a
conclusion of why that person is your friend.

The activity must include the following information:

1. Follow the structure proposed for the activity.


2. It must be a 200-300 words.
3. Use of linking words.
4. Your name.
5. Your age.
6. Your studies and where you study.
7. Your profession and where you work.
8. An introduction of the person stating who that person is for you.
9. Write a description of the person.
10. Write a conclusion of why that person is your friend.
11. If any of the key points does not match your reality, please use your imagination to
complete the activity.

NOTE: Make sure to EXPORT and DOWNLOAD your text at the end. You will need to
POST it in the next FORUM activity so the tutor can revise it.
Collaborative Work:

help them improve their skills. Groups will be created randomly. This activity will affect your
final grade. Therefore, it is important to complete it.

space of interaction and collective construction of knowledge, in which your participation and
that of your classmates continue to strengthen the knowledge of the course.

For this, you will answer the following questions in the forum Socialization Space:
1. Why is it important to talk about people’s personality or appearance? Explain your
reasons.
2. When do you talk about your personality or your physical appearance? Why?
3. Which country do you think offers the best quality of life? Is it better or worse than
the quality of life in Colombia? Explain your reasons.
