Relay for Life Team

What is Relay for Life?
Relay for Life is a community based event where
people come together to honor cancer survivors,
remember lost loved ones, and fight back against a
disease that has already taken TOO much!

At UofSC, our Relay team will set up our tent with

our selected theme and activity, and we will enjoy
the night with each other while having at least one
member going around the track at all times--cancer
never takes a break, and neither will we!

● As of right now, we only have 6 members on
our team
● We are currently #6 on the leaderboard out of
39 teams
● We have raised $1,448.16 of our goal of $2,000
● The event is going to be held on Friday, April
9th at 5PM
● The theme for the event is “Tune Out Cancer”
○ If you guys have any ideas and/or
suggestions on what our personal team
theme should be don’t be afraid to tell
us!
○ It could be a genre of music (pop,
hip-hop, rock, etc.), an era of music (80s,
90s, etc.), etc!

Once your account is created, it will
ask you to donate $15 to the team
5. Once you have submitted
everything, you will be a member
of the Scholars United Way Relay
for Life Team, and you will be taken
to your personal page!

How to Personalize
2. Create your own personal fundraising
goal.
○ It could be as low as $50 or as high as
$500. It all depends on you.

○ This could be of a family member, friend,
teacher, or anyone you know who has

4. Fill in your “Why I Relay” box
○ This should be a personal summary of
how cancer has impacted your life, why
you chose to relay, etc.
 How to Raise Funds on Your Page

● You can post about this on Facebook,
United Way Member:
Instagram, message/email to family members,
friends, etc.
● When sending a message to family and/or
friends, you should explain why you decided to
join the team and elaborate on what Relay for
Life is
● Make sure to let everyone know that the
money does not go straight to the members of
our team or yourself, but instead it goes
straight to Relay for Life
● After people have donated, be sure to send
them a ‘Thank You’ email that is available on
your personal page
○ You will have to insert the event name
and the team’s goal before sending the

 Birthday Boxes
“Together with our millions of supporters, the American Cancer Society
saves lives and creates more birthdays by helping people stay well and get
well, by finding cures, and by fighting back.”
One of our fundraisers this year is our BIRTHDAY BOX
initiative! This quote from the American Cancer Society
inspired this project based on celebrating the birthdays
of those we love and care about.
Each box is $8 (or $9 with delivery).
Ideas of how to promote boxes:
● Share link with friends or family members of
students
● Post link on your instagram/Snapchat stories
● Reach out to Team leadership for more ideas or
information on selling boxes!
