Consider the prestressed concrete beam below which is to be used in an industrial construction.
The beam is only reinforced with prestressing steel and no mild reinforcement is used. The
material properties and prestressing are as follow: fc = 40 MPa, fci = 35 MPa, fpu = 1,860 MPa,
fpi = 1,120 MPa, Δfpt = 140 MPa (total losses), and Aps = 8-99 mm^2 per strand. What is the
maximum live load that this beam can carry (in addition to the self-weight) considering only the
allowable section stresses at midspan?

Solution:
Ac = 180000 mm^2 Using shift solve,
e= 230 mm ftop =
WDL = 4.32 kN/m
fpe = 980 MPa
Pe = 776160 N
I= 5400000000 mm^4
r= 173.2050808 mm
S= 18000000 mm^3

Prestress in tension:
ft = 3.16227766 MPa
Prestress in compression:
fc = 18 MPa

ctop = cbottom = h/2

c= 300 mm
