PSYCHOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE OF THE SELF

It defines how the self is integrated to a group or how the self is being a member of the
group or how a self is connected to a group.

SOME EXAMPLES OF GROUPS STATED IN THE VIDEO:

FAMILY GROUP - can have an impact on a person's ideas, attitudes, and actions by giving
members a sense of security, belonging, and support.

SCHOOL GROUP - it offers possibilities for socializing, identity building, and peer connections,
making them a crucial part of adolescent and young adult development.

COMMUNITY GROUP - where it offers chances for social support, civic involvement, and group
action as well as a sense of identity and belonging. An individual's sense of self, beliefs, and
behaviors can be influenced by their membership in a group.

PROPOSITIONS OF SOME PSYCHOLOGISTS ABOUT THE SELF WE HAVE

WILLIAM JAMES
- The saying is partly object and partly subject.
- He says that the self is reflecting, being conscious, and intellectually operating to know
itself. But the self is also being observed by observers, which are usually the other
people.

KAREN HORNEY

- Talking about personality development defines what the self is all about.
- She emphasized how we are so busy in life trying to focus ourselves on the very
important aspects in life such as your career, plans in the future, etc. While that being
said, it’s still important to continue knowing who we really are and what ourself is all
about.

CARL ROGERS
- Our personality is influenced by two types of tendencies that we have; the formative and
actualizing.
- He says here that you should be able to deal with complex matters whatever situation
you're in, like being a high school or college student. Because you have the ability to
grow and reach your full potential as a person.

ALBERT BANDURA
- He introduces us to the element in the self that influences our personality development
that defines us who we are as a self. These are human agency and self-efficacy.
- He developed social learning theory which has enormous influence across social,
cognitive, developmental, educational and clinical psychology.
