3 Main Categories of Philippine Art Forms


1. Visual Art – a form that uses any medium to represent the artist’s idea, emotion, and
imagination.

2. Applied Art – a form of art that has practical application as well as functionality.

3. Performing Art and others – are forms of creative activity that are performed in front of an
audience. This form of art is much appreciated and enjoyed by people.

TYPES OF VISUAL ART


DRAWING is a form of visual art in which an artist uses instruments to mark paper or other two-
dimensional surfaces.

PAINTINGS are a form of visual art that captures the expression of ideas and emotions on a two-
dimensional surface.

SCULPTURE is the branch of the visual arts that operates in three dimensions. It is one of the plastic arts.

or other writing instruments.

ARCHITECTURE is the art and technique of designing and building, as distinguished from the skills
associated with construction.

POTTERY is the process and the product of forming vessels and other objects with clay and other ceramic
materials, which are fired at high temperatures to give them a hard, durable form.
Jewelry Design is the art or profession of designing and creating jewelry.

INTERIOR DESIGN is defined as the professional and comprehensive practice of creating an interior
environment that addresses, protects, and responds to human need(s).

TYPES OF PERFORMING ART


DANCE is the movement of the body in a rhythmic way, usually to music and within a given space, for the
purpose of expressing an idea or emotion, releasing energy, or simply taking delight in the movement itself.

MUSIC is the art of producing pleasing or expressive combinations of tones, especially with melody,
rhythm, and usually harmony.
THEATER is a building or space in which a performance may be given before an audience. The word is from
the Greek theatron, “a place of seeing.

LITERATURE is any collection of written work, but it is also used more narrowly for writings specifically
considered as an art form, especially prose fiction, drama, and poetry.
