My hometown is Chernivtsi city, it is located in the south-west of Ukraine and has a
common border with Romania and Moldova, located on the right bank of the Prut River. The city is small with a population of approximately 270 thousand people and an area of 153 km. Chernivtsi is an old city, the first documented mention of 1408. The city is the historical capital of the Bukovinian Territory, and during its existence more than once passed under the influence of various states. Because here you can hear on the street not only Ukrainian but also Romanian, Moldavian, Hebrew and Russian languages. The streets of the city and architecture reflect a centuries-old history. Of the architectural monuments, the most famous is the former chamber of the Orthodox metropolitans of Bukovina and Dalmatia. Now, the buildings of the architectural ensemble are the building of the Chernivtsi National University named after Yuri Fedkovich. The residence was built in 1882 according to the design of Joseph Glavka. The project is an unconventional building in the spirit of eclecticism with a predominance of Byzantine and Romanesque styles. Since 2011, UNESCO has been included in the World Heritage List. The Chernivtsi Regional Academic Musically Drama Theater named after O. Kobylyanskaya also deserves special attention. Which has an architectural twin in the German city of Fuerth. This is a three-story baroque building. Relief portraits of William Shakespeare, Richard Wagner, Ludwig van Beethoven, Johann Goethe, Joseph Haydn, Franz Schubert, Alexander Pushkin, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart are placed on the front windows. The theater building is located at the end of Theater Square and in front of the facade is a large statue of Olga Kobylyanskaya. The theater since 2008 received academic status. The city also has a Philharmonic named after D. Hnatiuk with a many of ensembles, including the Chernivtsi Academic Symphony Orchestra. The spiritual life of the city cannot but arouse interest; here in Sadgora, one of the directions of Hasidism arose and the famous melody “Hawa Nagiva” also goes back to the Sadgor Hasidim. The city also has the cathedral “Sobor Svyatogo Duhu” of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the Cathedral of “Svyatogo Nikolaya Chudotvortsa” of the Moscow Patriarchate, the “Sobor Uspeniya Prisvyatoy Bogoroditsi” of the Greek Catholic Church, the Catholic “Basilica Vozdvijenia Vsechestnogo Kresta”, in addition to this, there are many Protestant prayer houses in the city. Of green spaces in the city there are three parks named after Y. Fedkovich the greenery park around the residence, the Zhovtnevy Park with open lakes and playgrounds and the Taras Shevchenko Park on the territory of which there is a botanical garden. Along the Taras Shevchenko Park in 2017, Japanese cherries were planted around the perimeter. In our city, there is also a Bukovyna stadium, an Airport and one of the largest Ukrainian markets, the Kalinovsky Market. Among the places that are definitely worth a visit is the pedestrian street named after O. Kobylyanskaya, according to local beliefs, she was sweep out with roses. Street musicians play here and the city museum is located. Walking the streets of the city it seems that you are in Western Europe, somewhere in Austria or Germany. I like our city, it is not big but very cozy.
