RADAR SYSTEMS

1. A radar system operating at a frequency of 750MHz radiates peak pulsed power of

150KW over a range of 50KM. if the antenna captures an area of 5m 2 and the target
cross sectional area is 14m2. . determine the:
I. Minimum receivable power
II. Peak pulsed power that would double the minimum receivable power.

2. A 6GHz radar system scans a target over a range of 900KM in 35 seconds. Determine
the:
I. Doppler frequency shift in the system.
II. Time taken to scan the target whose range is 50KM at the above Doppler
frequency.

3. A Moving target indicator radar operates at 8.5GHz with a pulse repetition frequency of
750HZ. Determine the lowest blind speeds.
4. A radar system with a pulse of 3 micro seconds has a pulse repetition frequency of
1.5KHz. determine the:
I. Duty cycle
II. Maximum an ambiguous range.

5. A radar system operating at a frequency f HZ radiates power P1 watts using an antenna

whose power gain is Ap. if a target of cross – sectional area Sm2 produces the minimum
receivable power Pmin derive the expression for the maximum radar range.

6. A radar system operates at 2GHz using an antenna of capture area of 3M 2 with the
target cross –sectional area being 18m2 . if it radiates 40KW determine the minimum
receivable power over 80KM range

7. A short range radar system operating at 3.0 GHz over a bandwidth of 600KHz uses an r,f
amplifier with a noise figure of 6dB. If the target cross sectional area is 9M 2 and the
antenna diameter is 2m, determine the radiated power if the maximum range is 125KM.
8. An 8GHz short range radar system uses rf amplifier with a noise figure of 4dB and a
bandwidth of 400KHz. If the antenna diameter is 0.5m and the target cross sectional
area is 5m2 determine the radar range if the peak transmitted power is 5KW.
9. A 6.3GHz radar system scans a target over a range of 1000Km in 32 seconds. Determine
the Doppler frequency shift of the system.
