ACTIVITY 1:
Direction: Check the ideas you have acquired about portfolio assessment from different
sources.
1. Why would you assess students' learning using their portfolios?
- With the help of portfolio assessments, students can reflect on their actual
performance, identify their areas of strength and weakness, track their growth
throughout the learning process, and be prompted to take ownership of their
education.
2. What are the benefits of the students when you use their portfolios to assess their
learning? What about their teachers?
- One of the best tools for ensuring high-quality instruction and long-term student
improvement is the student's portfolio. With the aid of the student's portfolio,
the teacher and parents assess the qualitative learning growth of the children.
The teacher assesses his overall effectiveness in delivering high-quality
education.
3. What are the challenges that portfolio assessment poses to students as a method of
assessing their learning? What about their teachers?
- Both teachers and students are venturing into uncharted terrain when using
portfolio assessments. They run into issues like resistance, incompleteness, and
challenges with analyzing the portfolio and evaluating the evidence.
4. How different is the use of students' portfolio from the other methods in assessing
learning?
- In contrast to traditional assessment, a child's portfolio shows the development
they are making as well as their strengths and flaws. It is evident that, in
contrast to traditional assessment, both performance and portfolio evaluation
give students feedback.
