CHAPTER III: TASK SPECIFICATION SUMMARY

3.1 TASK DESCRIPTION

3.1.1 SITE WORK AND CONSTRUCTION PROCESS

During my time at Hassanesco the site work was very important task for
me because the internship main objective lies over it and I have gained
many knowledge from the site work like communication skills with the
works there and handling works etc. within 12 weeks I had the ability to
see many works from the project.
The main thing was column and slab construction process and stages.

The work task I have been executing at the site was:

• Supervising of works
• Inspection work element and how it done
• Learning the construction process of column and slab

3.1.2 GETTING FAMILIAR WITH ENGINEERING DRAWINGS

As a civil engineer I have to differentiate between the many types of

drawings so engineer abdalla was so helpful and cooperative with this
matter he explained to the difference between architectural and structural
drawings also he gave me the declaration to attend most of his meeting
at the site with the other engineers. During those meetings I was
focusing in taking notes to discuss it with him later.
3.1.3 CONDUCTING TESTS ON CONCRETE

The following are some of the important tests conducted on concrete:

• Slump test.
• Compaction factor test.
• Crushing strength test.

Crushing Strength Test: was-adopted on site, Metallic molds of size 150

mm × 150 mm × 150 mm are used for casting concrete cubes. Before
filling mold, it was properly oiled on its inner surfaces, so that cubes can
be-easily separated.

Fresh cube was filled with concrete to be tested in 3 layers and kept in
the room. After 24 hours, cube is removed from the mold and kept under
water for curing.

After seven days of curing, cubes was tested in the compression testing
machine. In this test cubes was placed over the smooth surface which
was in contact with side plates of mold.

The crushing load is noted and crushing strength was found as load
divided by surface area (150 × 150 mm2). Code specify the desirable
strength of concrete for 3 days and 7 days for quick assessment of
strength of concrete.

3.2 PROBLEMS ENCOUNTER AND SOLVING APPROACH

3.2.1 ENGINEERING TERMS

• The biggest problem when starting education is engineering

terminology like beam slab etc.

I Educated in English, so it was difficult to use in Qatar with the

engineers, so I could hardly understand the terms used by them and
workers. So, at first I was studying most of the vocabulary used on
the site online, but after a few days I was facing a problem and
after a few days I was familiar with the term and the problem was
solved.

3.2.2 THE WEATHER

• During my training period I have experienced some bad weather

conditions that prevent the construction work such as hot
temperatures workers may suffer from conditions such as
dehydration and sunstroke which can affect their judgement and
reaction times, and is particularly perilous when driving a heavy
vehicle around or operating machinery.

Extreme temperatures can also cause machinery to not operate

correctly, or sometimes even break down completely.
So the Construction work was divided into 2 shifts morning and
night. Also there was cooling breaks for the workers.
CHAPTER IV: CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS

4.1 CONCLUSION

As an undergraduate engineer I would like to say this program is an

excellent opportunity for us to gain ground level experience the things
that we would have never gained through going straight to job. I’m
grateful for giving me this chance to learn.

The main objective of industrial training is to provide the opportunity for

students to identify, observe and practice how engineering is applicable
in real industry.

At the end as I said before I’m grateful for this wonderful chance at
Hassanesco trading and Contract.

4.2 RECOMMENDATIONS

I would like to recommend continuing this industry training towards

future placements and extending the duration by 16 weeks. This will
give the student ample time to experience more about the scope of
software engineering work, project management.

I also invite the university to prepare for the terminology used in the
country attending to students who are planning to study abroad.

The data in this report was obtained directly from the site administrators
and my supervisors, but should be read from a specific perspective
