ACTIVITY A
QUESTION: What is citizenship? Explain

- Citizenship is the status of a person acknowledged as a member of or belonging to the


state under the custom or law of a sovereign state or local jurisdiction. Each state is free to
choose the circumstances in which it will recognize people as citizens and the circumstances
in which that recognition will be revoked. A state's designation of a person as a citizen
typically entails the grant of civil, political, and social rights that are not available to non-
citizens.

ACTIVITY B
QUESTION: What is election? Explain

- In a representative democracy or other form of governance, elections are a mechanism for


citizens to select their candidate or other preferences. The legislature typically elects the
government with a majority vote. In some democracies, the president is chosen, and the
government is subsequently chosen.

ACTIVITY C
QUESTION: Explain referendum, recall, initiative & plebiscite ?

REFERENDUM -It is the submission of the law or part thereof passed by national or local
legislative body to the voting citizens of the country for their ratification or rejection.

RECALL- it is the method by which a local public officer may be removed from office during
his tenure or before the expiration of his term by a vote of the people after registration of a
petition signed by a required percentage of the qualified voters.
INITIATIVE - is the process whereby the people directly propose and enact laws.

PLEBISCITE - a vote by which the people of an entire country or district express an opinion
for or against a proposal especially on a choice of government or ruler.

ACTIVITY D
QUESTION
1. Discuss JUS SANGUINIS & JUS SOLI.

Jus soli is the most popular way for someone to become a citizen of a country. When a
person gains citizenship through their parents or ancestors, a different mechanism known as
jus sanguinis is used.

2. Discuss the Direct Disqualifications in exercising suffrage.

Direct Disqualification;
1. Not a citizen of the Republic of the Philippines;
2. Below 18 years old;
3. Failure to qualify with the residency requirements set by law; and
4. Not registered voter in the place he proposes to vote;
