 Five major forms of communication:

 Intrapersonal Communication
 Dyadic Communication
 Small Group Communication
 Public Communication
 Mass Communication

Intrapersonal communication is a communication which happens yourself. Here both

Source (sender) and receiver is only one. so, the feedback works without any
interruption. Example: A person can communicate himself through pain, thinking,
feelings and emotion etc

In Dyadic communication, two persons are involved in this communication process.

Here the Source becomes a receiver and receiver become Source because of dynamic
communication process were the feedback’s are shared between Source and the
receiver.
So dyadic communication is communication between two people or creatures. Here
are some examples: A conversation between two friends. An exchange of letters or
emails.

What is the difference between dyadic communication and interpersonal

communications?

“Dyadic communication” is bafflegab jargon that refers to a dialogue, or an exchange of

information between two people. As such, it would be a specific subset of interpersonal
communications.

Interpersonal communication is the process of exchanging information between two

people or among a larger group of people.

More than two members involved in communication process will become a group
communication. If least number of persons is involved in the group communication is
called as small group communication. In this communication process, everyone
becomes a Source as well as receiver through sharing information and gives feedback
to another.

social loafing is the phenomenon of a person exerting less effort to achieve a goal
when they work in a group than when they work alone

In public communication, Source or messages from a single person will reach or

received by huge number of audience. But in this communication there is no mutual
feedbacks between source and receiver like small group communication and it’s only
focused on Speaker.
Public communication refers to public speeches that we deliver in front of audiences.
Public communication serves three main purposes: to entertain, to persuade and/or to
inform. It is different from other forms of interaction in that it requires greater levels of
planning and preparation on the part of the speaker and involves less direct interaction.
Audience members still interact with the speaker via mostly nonverbal symbols, but
there is a lesser degree of give and take than there is in one-on-one conversations.

In mass communication, basically have a large number of audience and they are all
can’t grouped together in one place so we need certain tool or technology for
communication process. But in mass communication, there is no direct access with
receiver. So, for that they need media like newspaper, radio, television and internet.
Here the audience feedback is very less or delayed.

Mass communication refers to any type of media that is used to communicate with mass
audiences. Examples of mass media include books, television, radios, films, computer
technologies, magazines and newspapers. Although mass communication does include
certain computer technologies, it does not include technologies like email that are used
to communicate one-on-one with someone. Mass communication is responsible for
giving us views of events, issues and people from cultures that differ from ours. It
enables us to learn what is going on in distant places in the world and lets us learn the
viewpoints of people and cultures with whom we do not have direct contact.
